    Selective Catalytic Reduction

Hello, Has anyone worked with selective catalytic reduction equipment for reducing exhaust NOx? I'm looking at an application that will be using low speed propulsion engines and possibly high-speed diesel generating sets with a urea system and SCRs. Fuel will be low-sulphur (1% or less) so...

    Engine Performance Curves

I've tried to upload the file, but it isn't working. The file is probably too big. I'll try again later.

    Engine Performance Curves

I'm looking at a series of diesel engine performance curves for a Cat 3516C marine propulsion engine. There are several curves shown. What is meant by Zone 1 Curve 1, Zone 2 Curve 2, Zone 3 Curve 3, Max Limit Curve 4, and Prop Demand Curve P?

    Exhaust gas properties

I'm working on a calculation of diesel exhaust system back pressure and was wondering if there were any values for gas densities and viscosity? Or are the properties for air at exhaust temperatures close enough?

    Quick depletion of anodes

Mshimko: Just to confirm, the number in 'b' when considering top and sides of an anode is less than when considering only the top of an anode. Is that right?

    Quick depletion of anodes

The chiller shell (steel) is 500mm I.D. and 4100mm long, giving approximately a surface area of 6.83 square meters. The chiller tubes (cu-ni) are 16mm diam. and 3400mm long. There are 120. Approximate surface area of 20.5 square meters. There are 18 zinc anodes fitted to one end. They are...

    Quick depletion of anodes

eminent, Do you mean temperature change from day to night of the seawater inlet or across the chiller? I don't think the seawater is aerated. We are getting cavitation on our pumps at times but there shouldn't be too much air in there. We have some trouble with marine growth in the sea inlet...

    Quick depletion of anodes

Sorry for the delay. The inside surface of the chiller is not painted. Also, the bolts holding the anodes on are brass.

    Quick depletion of anodes

I did add anodes. And I made them larger. I guess it's probably due to the temperature and flowrate but now I'm curious how these things work.

    Quick depletion of anodes

That's very interesting. I did a bit some research on these silver half-cells to try to understand the principle. On building a corrosion meter...

    Quick depletion of anodes

I'm not sure how I would measure the current. The zinc anode is attached to the inside of the condenser so I don't think there is a potential difference to measure, but if I'm wrong I'd appreciate any education you could offer. What are the factors involving anode depletion? Temperature...

    Quick depletion of anodes

We have an Air Conditioning Chiller condenser that is cooled by seawater. We operate in the middle east so seawater inlet temperatures are routinely 35C and so the flow is pretty high (200 m3/hr). The problem we are having is that the zinc anodes inside are depleting really quickly and we've...

    Cat C9 cooling

I want to set up a Caterpillar C9 engine with keel cooling (on a ship). Looking at the drawings of the engine it looks like there is an HT circuit (water in 2.5" dia., water out 2.5" dia.) and an aftercooler circuit...but the drawing only shows "Seawater Inlet 2" dia." Does anyone know the...

    Software Recommendation

I am trying out the demos. What I am looking for is comments by people who have used some kind of software and what they thought of it.

    Software Recommendation

Does anyone have any recommendations for piping system modelling software? I have heard of Pipe-Flo from Engineered Software and Fathom from Applied Flow Technology but I have never used any so I am looking for advice on what to purchase. Thanks

    Thrust at pipe outlet

Why does the velocity change? Is there a change in area of the outlet pipe?

    Size limit for self-priming?

I'm considering using a 90,000 gpm pump for pumping out a tailings pond. It has a suction diameter of 1 metre or more. Is it possible to get pumps like this to be self-priming?
