Does anyone have an estimate on the amount of time and money that would be required to obtain permitting through the Corps on placing 360 feet of stream in two 6' high x 9' wide box culvert? I attached a photo for the project that will be in Georgia.
I have attached two pages from the Load and Resistance Factor Design Manual, Second Edition from around 98. I have a question on when Cb>1. They show two formulas for Lm. They have a condition for Lm to decide which formula to use, but I don't know how to apply to the condition unless I have...
In Infraworks, when I select import Civil 3D data I receive the error: Failed to import date. See the details for further information. 0-113 Junius_Base File.dwg:

I am trying to understand this distribution direction pulldown within Area Member loading (see attachment). I am trying to represent a live load, so I am wondering if I should select perpendicular to A-B, Two Way or something else? Also, what should I select for a wind loading? I looked...
What I really need now is some projects to challenge me. I am a graduate civil engineer with a PE license. I am interested in creating these models on a part time basis. I feel like I can create the models remotely, so I will not have to be near a client to complete these. Does anyone have...
Josh,
I included the 2x4's in the model with the bracing because otherwise the le/d is greater than 50 for the UC Mas on the 2x6's.
For the 2x4's, I specified "S" for Segment for Le1, Le2, Lebend top, and Lebend. I don't know if I did this correctly? Does anyone have an example or material...
Josh,
The 2x4's are nailed to the top of the 2x6's every 4 feet. This is to provide members for attaching the roofing tin with screws. It also provides an easier and safer method for walking on the 2x4's while installing the tin. Also, the ridges on the tin are parallel to the length, so the...
I have attached a model of a storage building that I built years ago. It has 3-2x8' on top of 10" diameter poles. Above the 3-2x8's there are 2x6's and then 2x4's. I want to know if my model is a good representation of the pdf contained in the next post. Additionally in the 2x6's, I would...
Thanks Josh! Splitrings, did I get the member area loading correct by going with perpendicular to A-B?
I have attached a new copy of the file. I resolved it with Josh's recommendation and the suggested members. It came up with some odd shapes like 5x8 and 2x2. I mean who really uses sizes...
And here is the adjusted distributed load file.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=90cdded2-7ab0-4074-883a-b62d13e5a11c&file=flatroof2x6w2x4-dist.r3d
Splitrings,
Thanks for the help! I readjusted the file based on your recommendations. For the distribution in member area loads, I selected the direction perpendicular to A-B. Since I was modelling a shed that was supporting 2-2x8 girders by poles in the ground, I removed the fixed...
Here is the distributed load file. I can only attach one per post.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=8408ca5b-1f77-4954-877b-9c608aa4d9d2&file=flatroof2x6w2x4-dist.r3d
I have attached two files with the same structure. For simplicity in analysis, it's a flat roof with 2x6's.
One is plate loaded with a dead load = 10 psf and a live load = 20 psf. However, for the plate loaded structure, member 3A, the moment z = 0.275.
The other is a distributed load that...
I would like to recieve a recommendation on a fairly economical gas modeling software package. I have been asked to model the gas system for a city with 10-15,000 customers with the bulk of that being commercial load.
You just need to use lateral bracing at certain intervals. This prevents I-beam warping. Also, cross bracing of beams is also a good practice, as long as there is room and it will not interfere with maintenance.
About 12 years ago, I bought a program that allowed me to draw pipes and tanks for a water system in Autocad. I was then able to export the model into EPANET and execute it. I have misplaced the program, but now I need it again. The problem is that I am unable to locate it through a search...
