Good info.
CarlB, that seems to be what I have heard, as well. Being that most of these are for neighborhoods/subdivisions, they are definitely load bearing (e.g. garbage trucks, school buses, driveway access for houses). The developer is using a curb machine so that is why he is complaining...
DOT does not require reinforcement, but 95% of their maitained roads are highways with no curb and gutter. And in DOT tyipcal fashion, the lanes are so wide they wouldn't have to worry about loads on the curb and gutters that do exist. We are in Mississippi so while there is some freeze/thaw, it...
I am a civil engineer working for a local municipality. As a part of our land development infrastructure requirements, we require rebar in all public curb and gutter sections. Generally, the requirement is three #4 bars located 3" from the bottom, and spaced evenly through the gutter pan. The...
That actually seemed to work rather well, although I wonder if there is a way to modify the equation to make N = days rather than years. It seems like calculating the recurrence intervals off of the granularity of daily data would far exceed in accuracy those based on yearly data.
I have long suspected that the Atlas 14 data for my community is potentially overestimated. Our City's stormwater ordinance requires 2-, 10-, & 100-yr, 24-hour detention.
I have taken 122 years worth of rainfall data from a NOAA recognized gauge in our community which provides 24-hour rainfall...
CarlB-
Very helpful. You obviously are more brushed up on your statistics than I am. To calculate the values you posted, are you using equation 10-1? I am having a little trouble recreating your results. If I read them correctly, you are saying there is:
100% Risk/Chance (R) of 30 or more...
How would one calculate, for example, how many times a 2-year storm should occur in a 100-year period from a statistical viewpoint?
That is not to say what is the likelihood a 2-year event would occur in a 100-year period; that calculation is relatively straight forward and widely published...
