    Virtual Joists

Hello All! I am currently using virtual joists in my RISA3D model, because I am using 18k5 joists in my design. Unfortunately, I've read info from SJI and talked to RISA support and I cannot figure out how to determine the equivalent/corresponding virtual joist for the steel joist that I am...

Double Coped Aluminum Channel Beam End Strength Procedure?

Hello Everyone, I'm designing my first aluminum beam and one of my beam ends is double coped. I know that I need to check block shear rupture for the coped end, but I also know that the capacity of my beam should decrease due to the copes. Can anyone point me in the direction of literature...

All-Bolted Single-Angle Shear Connectors, Block Shear Rupture Check Required???

Please see the attached sketch. the blue is what I believe will tear away with the connector angle placed in the center of the beam web. https://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=109a76d5-d359-42a8-b6f9-9a5f7bb97c62&file=shear_path_coped_beam.png

All-Bolted Single-Angle Shear Connectors, Block Shear Rupture Check Required???

@celt83, yes I used the centerline through the bolt holes. Also, I'm tryng to sketch it but it doesn't make sense. Let me sketch and upload my best shot at it. Brb

All-Bolted Single-Angle Shear Connectors, Block Shear Rupture Check Required???

To clarify my question above, if my connector angle is centered on the web of my channel, would it still look like the picture attached? or would it not tear all the way to the top of the web and instead stop at the plate??? I know this question is very...

All-Bolted Single-Angle Shear Connectors, Block Shear Rupture Check Required???

@cliff234 This may be too much to ask, but can you upload a sketch of what the coped beam would look in block shear rupture? I visualize looking exactly like figure 2a in the picture above. Is that correct? If no one's noticed, I'm having a really hard time visualizing where the tear will be...

All-Bolted Single-Angle Shear Connectors, Block Shear Rupture Check Required???

@KootK, nevermind. I had a brain fart lol the net areas are based on the plate left afterward. sorry.

All-Bolted Single-Angle Shear Connectors, Block Shear Rupture Check Required???

@KootK in the picture you posted, Figure 2a shows the white area. It "overlaps" at the corner. Does that mean net areas are calculated differently?
