    City Water Storage Tank

I'm installing a 10,000 gallon city water storage tank. I am planning on including a 20gpm UV filter constantly recirculating the tank which will cycle the tank contents ~3times per day. Is this unnecessary as the city water has residual chlorine? Or recommended as the tank is just sitting there?

Cooling Tunnel Design for a continuous manufacturing process

Hello, I was tasked with assessing a specific cooling tunnel (used equipment, seeing if it will work) for our manufacturing process. The cooling tunnel is a refrigerated cycle blowing cold air in an enclosed space. The conveyor serpentines within the tunnel. So the mechanism of heat transfer is...

    Kettle Manufacturers?

I work at a plant with a cosmetics process and we need jacketed kettles. I currently have a quotation for a 1000 gallon double motion kettle from Lee Industries. Could anyone recommend any other manufacturers for this type of equipment? Thanks, Rob

Is this pump motor 60Hz or 50Hz?

So the motor rating is shown with 6 different voltages and 4 different frequencies. But then at the bottom states "50Hz: IE2-87.7 (100%)". I'm in the US so trying to wire to 460V/60Hz/3ph. Can this motor be wired for 50 Hz or 60Hz? Now, if a variable frequency drive is used, the 50Hz or 60Hz...

    31.1 NPSHr . . . too close for comfort?

Pump application has me at 31.1' NPSHr for a 50hp, or $4500 more for a 60 hp variety with 18'. Application is a hydronic 35% glycol loop recirculating out of an open tank. Level in the tank from pump centerline is atleast 2', adjustable up to 4'. Suction is ample at 4 ft/s up to pump...

Industrial Water-Cooled Chillers -- Evaporator Side question.

Hello, Heard something interesting from a chiller rep in that the evaporator-side piping is interchangeable -- heat transfer would still be the same. This is NOT true for the condenser side, this does have a specific piping configuration. So it got me thinking the following: From a physical...

Pressure Drop through a low-pressure Air PVC Piping System

Hello. I my question is regarding sizing of a blower for an air flow application. The system is as shown in the attached. My question is regarding my method of calculation. There is a 3way 3" valve in the system and the Air enters the branch portion and must either be directed left of right...

Vacuum Relief Valve: maximum vacuum a tank can handle

An inverted check valve is used for vacuum relief of a pressure vessel during emptying of the tank. What would be a recommended maximum vacuum for purposes of selecting a check valve? The operating pressure is 35 psig, the tank will firstly be depressurized, and then emptied. The...

Tank question: gas dissolved in solution adds to volume?

Do gases dissolved in a liquid increase the volume of that liquid? System: The system considered in an 11,000 gallon tank. 10,000 gallons are liquid, 1,000 gallons are "headspace". Initially, the system is at neutral pressure. System is sealed and chemical is added (30 gal). System is regulated...

Ferric Sulfate, Phosphorus precipitation & pH

Hello - The biosolids treatment process I work with uses chemistry to produce Class A biosolids. An acidification phase occurs in this process where the pH is lowered to 1.5 to 2.0 for 6 hrs. Ferric is added at the initial phase, the pH lowers from about 7.0 to 6.2. Sulfuric acid is then added...

How to find the regulatory requirements for specific chemicals?

Hello - My company utilizes 5 chemicals for our wastewater treatment process, and we are trying to drive out what cost we can by moving to more concentrated chemicals. Question: how does one go about finding the registration requirements for a chemical. We purchase it currently the desired...

93% to 50% Sulfuric Acid Dilution: Heat Balance Question

Hello - I am looking to design / sub-out a skid for diluting 93% H2SO4 to 50%. I have some questions regarding the heat balance. 1. From the enthalpy-concentration diagram, I obtained a value of -64 BTU/lb to do the dilution at the listed conditions. Is this all the heat that needs to be...

Non-return valves for combined Liquid and Gas Service

Hello - The system in question is an 11,000 gallon process tank, 10,000 gal. liquid + 1,000 gallon of headspace. Chemicals are added and the reaction proceeds under sealed conditions. A mixture of CO2 & NOx evolves and collects in this headspace. Pressure is regulated to 15psig. The primary...

    Pressure Vessel

Hello - The pressure profile for a Process Tank was assessed based on field observations, shown in the attachment. The tank recirculates a thick media with added chemicals during a sealed, reaction phase. A gas evolves and collects in the headspace of the tank. The pressures shown are a...

Diaphragm Pumps - upstream pulsation dampening

I had a rep suggest to use a pulsation dampener upstream of a diaphragm pump to reduce hammering. Can anyone find a reason for this? I thought it was only on the discharge. Thanks -

Regulating Pressure: 10,000 gallon tank with formed gas, 30 psig, 3" line to 1/4" ball val

My system of interest is attached. This is a client's system I have been asked to analyze - I have never seen a gas handling system like this. The Cv of the valve is 13, and the gas handled in a mixture of air, NOx, and CO2. This gas can be emitted atmospherically but must be done at such a...
