How new Ram Pick-Up provides 4 Different F/R Torque Bias?

The new Ram 1500 TRX has 4 different transfer case F/R ratios in HI; 40/60, 30/70, 45/55, 25/75, and 50/50 in LO range. I suspect a number of planetary gear sets are used, but you would know for sure. Thanks for any info on this. Kevin Kelleher, MEPE Link

Standard Definition of Displacement. Is there one?

I searched and could not find an ASTM, ASME, SAE, or DIN standard defining displacement. My research lead me back to early "piston pumps" (predating steam engines). There displacement was defined as # of pistons x piston displacement, as these pumps worked on a 1 rev cycle. I think this method...

DI Engines; Krud Fouled Intake Man'd & Intake Valves

I've searched here in vain .. looking for forum links if they are there, or a new discussion of this problem, where substantial build-up occurs at 20-30K miles. Is this just a DI + Turbo problem, or NA DI/DGI engines also? (Gas only in this thread) VW has a solution for 2013, using low pressure...

Tire stiffness PER SIDE of tire

Tire stiffnes is a well described subject. For zero camber, a simple 2D model of the tire could be represented by 2 side-springs, one at each side of the wheel. However, I recently went from a 17" set to a 16" set, and found that, when subjected to a non-symetric load condition, ther was a...
