Body flanges frontal face planitude tolerance

Hi to all, I'd like to rise a couple of questions, concerning heat exchangers body flanges, for water/vapor services: which is the body flange frontal face planitude tolerance? Is there any requirement in Asme viii div1 or in another design code? To add more data, discussion comes between...

Stayed Flat Plates under internal pressure

Hi everybody, i'm working on the calculation of flat plates that are supported by stays according to ASME VIII div1. Just to be more clear, the vessel is cylindrical with two flat plates that closes it. In order to reduce thickness, the flat plates are stayed with staybolts. Initialy I'm using...

Duplex SS 2205 for pressure vessels

Hy everybody, I'm working on the design of a heat exchanger and the client asked tubes of Duplex Stainless Steel 2205. I couldn't find that material on ASME Section II - D, I could only find Duplex SS 2750. Could the SS 2205 tubes be used for a pressure vessel calculated with ASME or should some...

    ASME Code with EN Materials

Hi everybody, perhaps it's a quite common question but here I go. We're working with a Project with a ASME Code, but due to market restrictions the workshop is offering in replace for ASME material a EN material. The place is outboard of USA and European Union. Is allowed to use with the ASME...

    Ad-Merkblatter Allowead Materials

I'm working with some pressure vessels and we had some limitations with the materials. So basically, my question is if we can use in a calculation based in Ad-Merkblatter a material SA-516gr70 (ASME) with a C22 (1.0402 DIN) materials. Thanks in advance! Peter

Flanges calculation following ASME Code App2

I'm designing flanges under Asme Code with a soft for a pressure vessel. The program gives me a warning concerning the flanges rigidity, the expresions (and results) are: JO = (109,4 |MO|)/(EO t^3 ln(K) KL) = 0,181 shall be < 1,0 JA = (109,4 |MA|)/(EA t^3 ln(K) KL) = 1,29 shall be < 1,0 In...

    Baffles thickness accord to TEMA

Hi everybody, I'd like to post a question that came to me somethimes while designing a heat exchanger according to TEMA. When we want to design the baffles one should go to the table CB-4.41 where the minimal baffles thickness is indicated considering equipment diameters and unsupported tube...

Minimal required thickness in mm for TEMA

I'm working with the TEMA norm in the design of a Heat Exchanger. As known in the sections 3.13 are indicated minimal required thickness for vessels in inches. If I want to use metric dimensions I mean: 6mm instead of 6,35mm (1/4") or 12mm instead of 12,7mm (1/2"), since this dimentions are...

    IBC 2009 Code

Hi everyone, I'm calculating a pressure vessel with the IBC 2009 for earthquake. I'd like to know if the ASCE Code could be used instead. Regards,

Heater tube materials SA-249 vs SA-269

Hi, I'm working on the design of a heater & for several reasons in my country our supplier can't provide tubes with material SA-249 insted he's proposing the material A-269. This last one is not listed in the ASME Code (as far as I know). Does somebody know how can we deal with this? Thanks

Test pressure vessels submitted to vacuum

Hi, perhaps this is a quite simple question, but i'd like to post it in order to have a confirmation. I'm designing a pressure vessel with an internal pressure of 0,5 bar and Full vacuum. The chosen norm is ASME VIII. In the paragraph UG-99 f) the norm states that test pressure should be 1,3...

    Water hammer in pressure vessels

Hi to everybody, Congratulations for this forum is quite usefull and interesting! I'll post a question that arrive me today. A client made a water hammer calculation and found that a pressure vessel will be submitted to full vacuum. Since this situation is a temporary, how should I calculate...

    Coil Calculation

I'm trying to calculate a Coil of Stainless Steel (basically 304) with water vapor at 6bar, the dimensions are DN20 std schedule. Could someone help me with the norm that should I use: ASME, EN or ANSI B31.x? Thanks in advance!

Max displacements on a square vessel

Well, i'm new in this forum & and i'd like to ask some advice about the design of a square vessel. This recipient normally doesn't work under pressure but i'll be submitted to 1psi test pressure. I'm running some simulations with a FEA program & i'd like to know which could be the allowable max...
