    BS4844 3A Hardness Issues

Has anybody had any prior experience in this material? We have cast this part twice in as many years, last year we reached a hardness of ~50HRC, this year we are only achieving 44HRC (with HT). We have to fan cool, as an oil quench has cracked these parts in the past. C% is at the high end...

    FMU11 heat treat requirements

    I have a customer requiring a magatteaux spec FMU11. Does anyone have any experience with this material, and how to go about heat treating to achieve a hardness of 50HRC? C - 1.25% Cr - 12% Si - 0.45% Mn - 0.55% S - <0.05% P - <0.05%

    BS970 605M36 (T)

Good day all, I was wondering if anyone may perhaps know of a cast equivalent of the BS970 605M36 (EN16) spec? A Mn/Mo steel with approx. 0.35% C Thanks kindly,

    wear and heat resistance

Are there any materials anyone could recommend for being at service a maximum of 500°C. The part in question will be in contact with other cast parts and so would require some form of wear resistance. Would an as-cast 309C40 25/12 material be ideal in such situations?

    CF8M hardness/toughness

Good day! My company have been producing castings in CF8M and WCB material for a few years now. The jobs in particular require a drilling and tapping operation, and this has been causing one or two issues for the machinists (in both materials). Compared to our competitors castings, our own...

    BW10 vs 7% Cr Martensitic

Can anyone tell me what the main advantages would be of having a 7%Cr martensitic material instead of BW10? I am aware they both have reasonable wear resistance, and suspect 7%Cr is more expensive. Is 7%Cr a more 'castable' material? Is there a big difference when it comes to having them in...

    Welding dissimilar materials

I have a Norwegian customer who wishes to weld a mild steel plate onto the front of a 25/12 casting. Does anyone have any idea what type of consumable they should be using? My first instincts would be to go for something as close to the 25/12, such as a 309, but i am not sure what effect, if...

    Afnor Z40 CMn

I was wondering if anyone was aware of the French metal spec Z40 CMn, and if so, has any relevant information on it they are willing to share. I am under the assumption that it is an AFNOR specification, and believe it to be a 20-9-5 material. Thanks

    3%Cr

Does anyone have an idea of how (if possible) to get 42-50HRC, 8J impact and 1200-1400MPa UTS from a material with 3%Cr, 0.45%C & >1%Mo? I have thus far managed to achieve the hardness, but approx. half the required UTS with a hardening/tempering approach.

    BS3100 A1

I am currently making castings in BS3100 A1 material, more often than not the castings I have made previously are full of gas holes. Can anyone suggest why this may be? Where can I find typical melting temperatures for this material grade?
