Hi all,
This may be a long shot, but I am looking for a copy of the old Hawker Siddeley Aviation design handbook (all volumes) as well as the SOR documents. I have managed to find bits and pieces, but it would be nice if someone had a full copy of these documents. Any help is appreciated.
Hello all,
I have run into a situation where nut plates with nylon inserts were used accidentally instead of the all steel variants. Specifically these are NAS1033 nut plates. The application is not critical or structural by any means. However, I can't seem to find any design information on...
Hello everyone,
I am looking to see if anyone has a copy of the Boeing D-590 fastener cross reference guide. I have access to myboeingfleet, however it appears that this document has been obsolete since 2013 and is not longer on there. I was wondering if anyone had a digital copy that they...
Hello All,
I have a part that I am running with many different load cases, 50 to be exact. I have created 50 different load step files, each containing the different loads. In APDL I am able to use the Solve > From LS Files option to solve all 50 at once. My problem is I am trying to have...
Hello All,
I am creating an input file to generate a plate and create a rigid region on top of it. I am somewhat new to APDL and having trouble getting the CERIG command setup properly. I am trying to get it setup to select one master node and four slave nodes based off there X,Y,Z locations...
Hello All,
I am analyzing a small exterior mounted GPS antenna being installed with an external doubler. I can calculate the shear loading on the rivets due to hoop and longitudinal loading from internal pressurization. My question is, how do you determine what portion of that load acts in...
Hello all,
I am looking for some expert guidance on some spline couplers I had made. To make a long story short, I had two spline couplers made that will be used for ground testing of a turbine engine. The torque on the adapters is relatively low, however they will be spinning at high rpm...
Hello all,
Using ANSYS workbench is it possible to save force reaction probe results to say a text or excel file? I have multiple force reaction probes and wanted to save them all in a single .txt or excel file. I couldn't find a way of doing this, but I would assume it must be possible.
Thanks
Is it generally best to stress relieve a gear or spline before final machining, but prior to nitriding? Or is it acceptable to stress relief and then go straight to nitriding? This is assuming the material has already been quenched and tempered to the appropriate hardness. I wasn't sure which...
Hello all,
I know some of you guys have a lot of experience when it comes to manufacturing gears and splines. I am looking to get a little help/input on manufacturing an internal involute spline.
To produce the internal spline we plan to use a wire EDM as we do not have the proper equipment...
Is it preferred to chamfer or radius the leading edge of an internal spline? More specifically on an internal spline adapter? I have attached a picture showing a spline adapter with the leading edge chamfered.
I am working on re-designing a spline coupler that failed. I do not have a lot of the details of the coupler that failed, as we had no involvement with the original design. Pictures of the failed coupler are attached. It is believed that it was made from 4340 and heat treated to RC 32...
How is distortion of spline teeth due to nitriding usually accounted for? I am designing a female splined coupler and plan to have the teeth nitrided by an outside vendor. Is there anyway to account for distortion during the nitriding process? I plan to speak to the vendor to see if they can...
I am looking for these two articles by Darle W. Dudley. I have looked everywhere and cannot find these. If anyone has a copy of them please let me know. I would be more than willing to pay for them.

Hi guys,
I am using ANSYS to analyze a involute spline connection. An engine dyno with a male spline shaft is being attached to an engine through a internal spline adapter. I know this is somewhat vague, but is it wise to assume the plane stress condition and use a 2-D analysis? I haven't...
I am looking for an old SAE standard titled "Design Guide for Involute Splines" by Cedoz, R.W. and M.R. Chaplin. I was wondering if anyone had a copy and if they would be willing to email/send me a copy or pdf version. It is out of print and I can't find it anywhere. I have seen it referenced...
