Good morning all,
I have a question in regards to the required P4A documentation involving multiple parties. We are currently building a process boiler that has a design to ASME I, B31.1 & B31.3. I have a fabricator, (2) installers and the engineering firm of the Boiler. To try and clarify, I...
Am I interpreting the code correctly in ASME IX 2015 : QW-304 that with GMAW-S you cannot use RT but that tells me that UT is an option for qualification purposes. I am being told that UT in lieu of RT is not permitted.
What code would all of the new piping welds inside of the power plant be made to ? Is it A.P.I 1104 or does it change to something else ? I was told that it is 1104 until it gets to a distribution skid , then changes to B31.1 to the burners but that doesn't sound right to me .
Thank you for...
The customer is saying to RT per code and give a reference to >750 degree F temperature and >2" NPS which is taken from B31.1.
The pipe material is 6 5/8" O.D X 1" M.W. I am saying that these supply lines are still under ASME Sec. 1 and do not need RT'd per code.
I checked PG 58.3.2 & 58.3.3...
ASME Sec. 1 is a code for construction , not repair but under table PW-39.1 defining nominal thicknesses it mentions material repair under (C)
For the scenario that I am in now - On the secondary superheater outlet header ( SA 335 P22) socket welds ( SA 213 T22 tube stubs). We are chasing...
Good morning,
The customer wants their furnace walls overlayed where we installed new panels. The panels are already overlayed with inconel 622 and they tie into existing panels that were previously overlayed with stainless ( I think a 309 stainless of some sort ).
I told them...
I did not know where to post this as I do not know what original code of construction these are built to. I am assuming ASME Sec. 8 Div. 1.
We want to repair erosion on the floor ( 2205 Duplex S.S) using 1/4" plate of the same material - welding with NiCrMo-3 as per the customer. My question is...
We are doing base metal restoration of the primary Air fan blades and then doing a hard surfacing once we have the blade back to it's original thickness. It is made out of A514 Gr. A material (P 11B )
The only qualified welding procedure my company has for welding P11B to P11B utilizes 11018...
We have Ironworkers that are certified through AWS on 1" plate butt welds. My question is , if they go out to work for company "A" , do they need to re-certify for that company's WPS ?
Company "A's" WPS was pre-qualified using AWS's standard welding procedures .
We are welding new bottle headers into the second pass of the secondary superheater. I wanted to confirm alignment tolerances according to the code. But I cannot find anything that specifically references "Headers". Part PW-33 is for shells and vessels (including pipe or tube used as a shell)...
We have a 1.813" M.W bottle header ( Existing ) P4A
Welding to a 1.75" M.W new bottle header spool piece ( New ) P5A
My question is - Obviously we go with the higher material grade for the PWHT procedure ( P5A ) , but should I also use the bigger thickness ( 1.813" instead of 1.750" ) for my...
Good morning,
We have 4 - 67,000 gallon Aqueous Ammonia storage tanks with a 1" inlet - 150# raised face flange, 2" outlet RFFL pressure relief valve. It is set for 30 psi to vent to a safe location.
My question is besides initial calibration by the manufacturer , how often will the plant need...

Good morning ,
We are looking at repairing a 5' x 5' area of metallizing by sandblasting , grinding and then welding ( .035" dia. - 309SS LSi using Pulsed GMAW). The tube's are 1.250" o.d x .220" m.w SA-213-T11 on 1.50" center's. We have an overlay requirement of .070" minimum...
We are looking to overlay the existing furnace walls ( 213T11 & T2 ) with GMAW-Pulsed 309 LSI welding wire. We have to prepare the surface for overlay by sandblasting and then using grinders to get to good metal.
My question is, Aside from a handheld P.M.I device, is relying on spraying Copper...
Good morning,
We have some structural plate to weld in the back pass of the boiler ( economizer ) that supports the economizer itself. It has broken free and we are going to band-aid it until a more permanent fix can be administered at a later date.
We are going to be welding vertical...
I am trying to find out if there is a code somewhere that might have requirements for toeplate/banding around piping penetrations through grating. We have everywhere from 1" to 12" air/ammonia/steam & water piping that penetrates grating. In our general notes , we have the details on HOW to do...
Good morning,
I am looking through project's scope of work and it says the removal and re-installation of thermocouples.
We are going to install a new secondary superheater ( 2 headers and 90 new elements ) and I was wondering how the thermocouples are normally attached and what type of NDE...
Could someone enlighten me as to what this RD and GN etc. mean on this print ?

Hello,
We have a 4" SCH. 80 ( .337" M.W ) SA217 C5 Valve that we are going to weld to a piece of 4" 335 - P22. So it's a P5B to P5A weld. Our procedure calls for a minimum of 2 HOUR soak time on P5B Material - to give all of the martensite time to temper.
** My question is the ramp up time...
