I have a batch of partially used pickling acid (sulfuric acid) which mistakenly had some flux introduced into it.
The ferrous concentration is about 4% currently.
The flux is a mixture of ammonium chloride, potassium chloride, zinc chloride, and sodium chloride.
Is there a process to remove via...
May material produced and marked (with full documentation) to a specification which IS permitted by this Division be recertified by the Certificate Holder (vessel/part manufacturer) to another specification which is also permitted by this Division following the process detailed by UG-10(a)...
When steel plates covered under SA-20 are produced from coil, does the "plate identifier" marking required in 13.1.1 refer to the coil # or something else? It is clear that subdivided plates should carry the original master plate identifier, so I would think that principle would apply to plates...
See attached image. My question is concerning the design of the pipe which is to be welded into the ID of the single tap pad flange. I'm thinking that the developed opening should be taken as the ID of the flange. The pipe needs to pass UG-45 calc, and pipe-to-flange welds should be per Fig...
What are your favorite books on the topic of boiler system design? I'm most interested in condensate polishers and DA's and how corrosion prevention is managed. TIA!

How do you properly apply section E4 for single angles? For single angles, neither the y-axis nor the x-axis is the axis of symmetry. The w-axis is the axis on symmetry. Should I replace Fey with Few, by using rw and Lcw? This approach would be consistent with the User Note concerning channels...
If a standard B16.5 or B16.47 carbon steel flange is used in a vessel, does the UCS-66(c) impact test exemptions apply if the designer chooses to calculate the flange per App.2?
My position is: Yes and here is why.
Flanges evaluated per Appendix 2 must have their MDMT and impact test...

Let's assume I wanted to weld a 1/4" thk shell section to a 1/2" thk shell section in a Category B joint and I want the centerline of the materials to line up (surface offset of 1/8" on each side).
If I provide the 3:1 taper...
I'm going to discuss this with my AI, but wanted some other input before I do.
Section VIII-1 (2019)
Conical shell section with small end welded directly to reverse type flange:
1. Weld Joint Category C?
2. Weld type 7? Does the half-apex angle matter? (I don't think it does, if this is a Cat...
Is it permissible to use products produced to a newer edition of a standard referenced in Section VIII, Div. 1, Table U-3?
For example a flange built to B16.5-2017?

Should Circ. Bending Stress at saddle horn be 1.5*S (VIII-1 UG-23(c)) or 1.25*S (VIII-2 4.15.3.5(f))?
Note: S is Div. 1 allowable.

Hello everyone!
I am currently using PV Elite 2019. I am disturbed by the fact that the 2020 software, which will have incorporated the 2019 Code VIII-1, has not been released yet. Our company was just told by Hexagon that it will be released in the "next few weeks."
Are they other software...
My purchasing department is having a hard time locating the subject bolt. Does anyone have a source worth checking that you could point me to?
Thank you!
Is it too much of a stretch to use DG-16 to design a Flush Moment End-Plate Connection that uses "square" beams? For example W8x31, W10x49, or W12x79. I'm working on equipment, not buildings. Table 3-6, note (a) covers the depth. But the tested width covers only a very narrow range of 5-6 in.
See attached image.
The two tabs are welded to the flanges as shown.
They are loaded parallel to the length of the beam.
I have calculated the eccentric weld group for each tab.
How do check that the beam's flange isn't over stressed? It seems that I need to check for an eccentric block...
Let me start by saying that I am no expert in AutoCAD.
I am using a set of files which contain blocks which I insert into drawings that I am working on.
The problem I have is that the scaling is always off. Once I insert a block I have to use the scale command to always scale it up 3x. Is...
I'm a mechanical engineer by day and a farmer by night. I have a barn with a failing foundation. At some point, someone did a lot of foundation work on this barn, and this failure seems to be in an area that was repaired/replaced. It has sunken about 1-1/2".
I'm thinking the only possible...
