Hello,
I have a heat exchanger where tubesheet has blind threaded holes where a flange is bolted.
Does it necessary to calculate the length of the threaded holes in the tubesheet?
It doesn’t exist a formula in tubesheet chapter to check it according to ASME.
Can we follow good engineering practice?
Hello, I am a young project manager and I have a problem with a client because of wrong commercial clarification during bidding phase.
Unfortunately commercial guys confirmed for installation of steel platform without considering the price for this.
This involves 20.000 € don’t considered in our...
Hello, I have a heat exchanger flange in stainless steel with bolts in low alloy steel at high temperature (400 C) and camprofile gasket in stainless steel.
The code is ASME VIII div1.
We checked the flange with appendix 2 and then with ASME PCC-1 appendix O to check the joint against leakage...
Hello, I checked a girth flange of a heat exchanger in accordance with ASME VIII div1 appendix 2, as per project specification and everything is verified, but if I check the flange with ASME PCC-1 appendix O as well, the verification isn’t ok.
Bolts are not enough to seat the gasket.
In this...
Hello, I noticed a client request that we never had before regarding calculation of stacked heat exchangers.
We have two AES type in stacked and client asks to calculate the stress due to Thermal expansion of connecting nozzles, does someone can help me? In other projects clients never asked to...
Hello guys,
I have to calculate a bolted joint with two welding neck flanges against high pressure with a particular gasket that I never used.
This gasket has trapezoidal shape and I would like to know if it exists a calculation for this type of gasket.
Code is EN13445 and pressure is 280 barg...
Hello everyone,
I am checking a calculation of a pressure vessel, where the operating temperature is 480 C and design temperature is 510 C for SA-387 gr.11 cl.1.
In this case In accordance with ASME code the design temperature for this material is in creep range, so in my opinion design...
Hi everyone,
I have a unusual case, with a small pipe with two flanges ansi b16.5 3” #300 and two blinds (equipment ASME VIII div1 stamp).
Pressure is 8 barg and temperature 70 C material Carbon steel.
In this case I need to verify standard flange against external loads with UG-44b and...
Hello,
I can’t find in PED 2014/68 UE legislation where water is considered as gas only at temperature higher than 109 C and not from 100 C. Does someone can help me please?
Good morning,
I have to calculate thickness and bolts size of a motor support plate welded inside a pressure vessel shell course with ASME code.
The support has circular shape and a hole at the center with the motor bolted on plate by 12 bolts 1” type (like that ones on reverse flange).
In this...
Dear gents,
I have to check a long welding neck 2” #300 with corrosion allowance (3 mm) and external loads with ASME appendix 2, but doing so I found that MAP is lower than MAWP.
The required thickness is 20.3 mm and with LWN standard we have 20.7 mm.
I don’t understand how it is possible that...
Hello everyone,
I am designing a heat exchanger and I noticed that Mawp is limited by nozzle flange on shell side and a vent from tube side.
In accordance with API 660 nozzle reinforcement (reinforcing pad) Can not limit Mawp but in this case the mawp is limited by a flange and a opening. Do you...
Dear gents,
I have a rectangular nozzle welded to a circular shell and our client asked to us to verify the nozzle shell junction under external loads and if a reinforcing pad is necessary with ASME code.
The problem is that the nozzle is rectangular and I don t have code rules for this type of...
Hello,
I have a huge nozzle 80” diameter on a vessel 120” diameter that I calculated with EN 13445.
The verification involves the reinforced area of the opening only against internal pressure.
In order to satisfy the verification I used a reinforcing Pad 95” diameter (all components have the...
Hello everyone,
I noted that Compress used Pmax = Mawp in the ASME PCC-1 calculation for main flanges.
In ASME code Pmax = maximum design pressure and because of this reason the verification on Compress is too restrictive to me.
Does anyone noted this different software interpretation?
Thank you
Hello,
I am trying to validate the stresses from fea analysis close to nozzle shell junction and I would like to know which formula you use to compare these values and validate the analysis.
Do you use wrc 537, 297 values or calculation by formula as per Asme Viii div2 to compare the output...
Hello everyone,
I took part in a course a couple of weeks ago about how to consider nozzle loads in calculation and they told me that Pb load is always secondary load when I study nozzle shell junction but I don t understand very well because from Asme code div 2 I understand that’s true only if...
Hello,
I need to check the flange rating of standard flange to external custom loads (Dead loads and Wind loads).
I understand that I need to apply and axial load and an external moment but I don t understand which Moment to use with UG-44(b).
The combination sqrt (Mx^2+My^2) is one solution...
Hello,
Does someone know a good online course or a good book to understand better the fatigue analysis in pressure equipments?
For example fatigue analysis due to cyclic loads on nozzles by ASME code.
Thank you
Hello to everyone,
When you design a heat exchanger with fixed tubesheets in accordance with EN 13445 you can find a parameter Z:
Which is the correct value for this parameter?
I have channel flanged with tubesheet welded to the shell on each side.
Is it more correct to design with parameter Z...
