    8.8 tensile strength

I have some 8.8 10mm metric bolts that will experience load in tension. Rated at 830mpa but I am thinking I should be more concerned with thread pullout then tensile. I Could not purchase 10.9 bolts so was wondering if these would work and what the calculation would be for the thread pullout.

    NFPA 42.8.1.3.3

This section on interior walls in a parking garage are vague. What if the wall is small like 10 feet. Are you suppose to have a 20% opening in that.

    nfpa 101 3.3.254.6

Did they revise this section about parking garages drastically? It just references atmospheres now. Where in the nfpa 101 does it talk about parking garage design using natural atmosphere.

    Structural columns or not?

Florida structural engineering question. This house has rotten wood columns. 6 columns and all are hollow, not structural, I think. The distance from the brick wall to the fake column lintel is 6'1, wood frame house, slab on grade with the exception of the porch. Are the columns holding the...

    Fly ash

It wasn't that long ago that fly ash in the concrete mix design was a bad thing. Today it seems like its the "green" thing to do. Walmart is specifying 15-25% in their mix design to reduce off gassing. So how to structural engineers feel about the use of fly ash today?

    Brick height and weeps

I was told that you need a ledger angle for brick veneer around 15-18 feet high. If thats the case, you have to have weeps above each ledger angle, right?

    life safety

I have a stair tower that dumps into a 2hr rated corridor that leads to the outside of the building for secondary egress. I was told you cant have other doors leading into that corridor. I don't see why not. Its like an egress corridor for a bunch of school classrooms. Any thoughts or examples...

    Sprinklered building

Working on a new hotel at work and noticed that there are alot of rooms and corridors that are rated. 1hr, 2hr, 20-45-90 min doors. So hotels have to be sprinkled right, well at least the rooms so if the whole building was sprinkled you would not need rated rooms anywhere, right?
