    Power Quality Issues

Hello, I am trying to understand how harmonics from a few new oil wells with large variable speed motors can cause a few residential washers to stop working. They worked fine until a new substation with a delta wye transformer was recently energized. This substation serves the oil wells as well...

    Power Quality

Does anyone know where I can find a standard on power quality? I am looking for a good ANSI or IEEE definition. So far I can just find where they talk about how outages should be infrequent and limited, and where prompt corrective action shall be taken to get this corrected. Any help will be...

    Transformer Impedance and Operating Temperature

Hello, Can anyone tell me why a mobile substation transformer can operate at higher temperatures than pad mounted (up to 95°)? Can anyone tell me why a mobile substation transformer can have impedance as high as 18%? Thanks for any help!

Touch Potential Between Substation and Customer Fence

I understand that there can be some touch potential between a substation fence and a customer's metal fence near by, but how do you determine how close it can be before it becomes a problem? I have seen 6 Feet online. Are there any regulations for this? I know that you could connect the...

    Surge Arrester Ratings

Hello, Need to know what surge arrester rating to apply to a 2.4kV winding on a transformer. So would the duty cycle rating be 1.38kV (2.4kV/sqrt3)well a little higher than operating voltage say 3kV or 6kV duty? And would the MCOV rating be 2.55kV or 5.1kV??? thanks, not used to lower voltages

    Utility Winding in Regulator

I know for type A regulators the utility winding is on the source side, and for type B regulators the utility winding is on the load side. I guess my question is what is the utility winding used for and whats the difference in having it on the source/load side of the winding? Thanks

    GSU Transformer

Hello, I am putting together a specification for a 115/2400 GSU transformer and I was wondering if anyone on here may know if this type of transformer should follow IEEE Std. C57.116-2014: IEEE Guide for Transformers Directly Connected to Generators? Also, what is the difference between normal...

Difference Between Generator Step-Up Unit and Regular Transformer?

Is there a difference between a 46/2400 GSU and a normal 46/13.2 Transformer? (internal windings, physical differences, etc.) Thanks for any information!

    Mobile Substation Manufacturers

Hello, I am in search of manufacturers that make mobile substations. I have found that Delta-Star manufactures mobile subs, but I have had no luck finding other companies. Need the mobile sub in the United States.

    Regulators types A and B

Hello, I am trying to find a good description as to when you should use a type A and type B regulator in your substation. I understand that just about everything is the same except the internal connections are different as far as the shunt winding being on the primary side for type A and then...

    Arrester Cantilever Strength ?

Can someone please explain to me what cantilever strength is when talking about surge arresters (what it is, how it affects the arrester)? A link or good explanation would be appreciated. Thanks!
