I know the Yield Stress of the material and have a stress factor in mind.
To go about calculating the maximum shear/tearing force at a distance away from the weld, can i work out the moment by saying:
Force x distance from weld = Moment...

Me and a colleague have been discussing a load case and cant find anything in machinery's ,Shigley's etc to verify who might be right.
Basically if the bolt is preloaded to 80,000lbs, is that force shared between the two flat plates ?
