Fig UG-34 sketch(b-2): Welding a forged flat head to shell, without doing Tension Test Specimen

Dear colleagues I have designed a forged flat head according to fig. UG-34 sketch (b-2) / UG-34(d)(3). The length of flange is quite large, so that the flange-shell weld is away from the corner (radius r) and from the hub (tapered zone). See attached figure, with dimensions. The question I...

Application temperature limits of SS 904L

Dear forum members, I was surprised that the SA-312 grade 904L pipe has an application limit of 371°C (700°F) for ASME VIII-1, while in ASME B31.3 the limit drops to 260°C (500°F). Does anyone know the reason for this big difference?

    Boiler room

The Spanish regulation of boilers (RD 2060/2008 ITC EP-1) establishes that the boiler room must have reinforced concrete walls of 20 cm thickness. Doors can not exceed 1.2 x 2.1 m. The roof has to be of light material. The objective is to protect the people outside the room, in case of boiler...

ASME PTB-4, E.4.12.2 Reinforced Vessel of Rectangular Section: there is an inconsistency in data

In ASME PTB-4, example E.4.12.2 - Reinforced vessel of Rectangular Cross Section, there is an inconsistency in the stiffener data: The moment of inertia is not consistent with the height and area of the rectangular section. Let's see: - Stiffener shape: rectangular - Stiffener cross sectional...
