Hello All!
Does anyone have an experience of welding Bronze c83600 welding to carbon steel.
Design code is B31.3 and welding code is ASME Sec IX.
I don't see any articles online. Any input on welding process, filler wire, preheat, Interpass, shielding gas will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Hello All,
Hope all are healthy and safe!
I had a question related to the corrosion test and ferrite test.
Construction Code – ASME B31.3.
We did a Duplex PQR and it needed to be:
1) Corrosion tested per ASTM A923 Method C. (Temperature - 25 C. Time - 24 hours)
2) Ferrite point count method...
Construction Code - ASME B31.8
Material - API 5L X52 and API 5L X60
MDMT - Minus 20 F
Wall thickness - 3/8"
While preparing WPS, is there any thickness limitation for the base metals as it is for B31.3 (t/2 to t+1/4"). I didn't see it though in the code or is the Sec IX the governing code?

Code - ASME Sec IX. Material on PQR - 347H SS (1.338" Thick)
I have a PQR with the following heat treatment cycle.
One single cycle, AMB to 1000°F (@400°F/hr) hold 1.8 hrs , 1000-2025°F (400°F/hr), hold 3hrs, cool @ 200°F/hr to 1650°F hold for 5.5 hrs - cooled in still air.
Can I use the above...
Hello All,
Code - ASME Sec IX
If I have a supplementary PQR with impact testing only, then does it need to have the same Heat Input as that of the original PQR?
Regards,
Good Morning All,
Is QW-407.2 applicable to base materials of the production welds too or is it just applicable to the Weld Metal and HAZ. If it is applicable to the base materials, where is it mentioned in ASME Sec IX?
Regards,
HMN
Hello All,
What TIG welding wire should be used for the above combination of the base material. API 582 does not have above combination. Can someone help on this one?

Hello All,
With reference to the subject, can I do that?
The only issue I see with ER347 wire is the Ni is on a lower side 9-11 compared to 10-14(316/316L) and 11-15(317/317L)and also on Moly. I couldn't find anywhere it asks to use or restricts to use. No impact required on job. Per sec IX, I...
Hello All,
Design Code - ASME B31.3
I have a dissimilar weld between API 5L X65 and A519 TP 4130 material coming in one of our jobs.
X65 has chemistry of 0.08 - 0.2% C, 0.15 - 0.4% Si, 1 - 1.35% Mn, 0.4% Ni, 0.3% Cr, 0.15%Mo
4130 has chemistry of 0.28 - 0.33% C, 0.15 - 0.35% Si, 0.4...
All,
Weld joint between elbow to pipe (8" Sch 40S).
Material - 316/316L
Filler Metal used - ER316/316L
One half of the weld was welded during the night shift and the other half was supposed to be started today morning. But when the welder started welding on that, he said it welded like Aluminum...
Hello All,
Per QW-361.2 (a) of ASME Sec IX, a change in the welding process is an essential variable. Is my interpretation correct that if a welder is qualified on GMAW-Machine, he is NOT qualified for FCAW-Machine process. He needs to weld a separate coupon for getting qualified in...
Hello All,
Base Material - A333 Gr 6 and A350 LF2
Per B31.3, under which curve of Fig. 323.2.2 (A) do both these materials fall. Per Table A-1 both can be used till minus 50°F so we use the procedures qualified with impact at minus 50° F. I wanted to know do these materials fall under any curve...
Hello All,
Code - ASME Sec IX
What are the disqualification criteria for a welder at your shops. What is the repair rate that you guys set for a welder to be disqualified and retrained on that process?

All,
Design Code - ASME B31.3 2014 Edition. Material - Austenitic SS
My PQR is tested to -320 F for 304L to 304L materials. Per Table 323.2.2 A-4 b)Weld metal deposits shall be impact tested ....
My interpretation is A-4 b) talks about the PQR and not the filler wire used for production joints...
Is post heating mandatory to be done on 4130 material. We are required to meet hardness of 250 Hv10 and every weld would be subjected to PWHT. Thickness range - 0344" - 1.88". Weld consumable - ER100S-G, E101T1-GH4.
If yes then at what temperature and how much time.
Hello All,
I welded a PQR 0.938" thk with ER2209 (TIG). The PQR was to be tested per ASTM G48 Method A (Acceptance criteria - No pitting shall be visible under 20X magnification after 24 hours exposure at 40 C). Weld metal failed in corrosion test(pitting in weld metal). Base metal passed in...
Hello All,
We have a job of A519 type 4130 material per ASME B31.3 having thicknesses ranging from 0.344" - 1.88". 4130 material is unclassified per ASME B31.3.
I am starting to weld a PQR for 4130 material
- Can anyone tell me what is the preheat and interpass temperature for A519 Type 4130...
Hello All,
I would be starting with the welding of 4130 material with ER100S-G(TIG,MIG), E101T1-GM(FCAW) and F9P8-EF3-F3-H4(SAW). PWHT @ 1150 F for 2 hours. 3 Sizes of pipe
3" Sch 160, 9.61 O.D. X 1.25" and 18" O.D. 1.88 AW. I have been reading a lot about this material. But some practical...
Hello All,
My PQR material A519 4130 has the tempering temperature at 1051 F(It's a stock material so). My job has a tempering temperature of 1200 F and on job the PWHT is @1150 F. My PQR material is also going to be PWHT @ 1150 F.
My question is would it be a problem to do PWHT on PQR @ 1150...
A 519 Type 4130 is an unclassified material as per ASME B31.3.
My question is, for welder qualification as per QW 423 (ASME Sec IX) will I need to use the same material for welder qualification or is there any clause which exempts from doing that because if I need to use A519 Type 4130 material...
