Hi all,
I am hoping someone has experience with underground polyethylene pipe.
We have a sprinkler system which is dropping pressure consistently, probably from a leak, but I thought maybe the PE pipe could be creeping causing the pressure to drop.
The sprinkler pipework consists of U/G PE pipe...
Hi all,
We are working on a hotel job and need to install 2x diesel driven pumps for sprinkler and hydrant. The pump room is becoming enclosed by the new hotel extension, which makes things difficult for the exhaust route for the diesel engines. There is one micky mouse way to get it outside...
Hi there,
Please see the attached PDF.
We supply containerised (20 foot) fire pumpsets and usually install the seismic hold down brackets flush to the concrete base.
However in this particular installation the container is 40mm off the concrete and we prefer not to make it flush as pipe and...
Hi there,
I am looking to install a 150 PE main underground with heat-fused welded joins , the PE elbows up at both ends and termiantes near ground level.
Then a flanged connection will join steel pipe from a pump at one end to a valve room at the other end.
I am wondering if I need to...
Hi there,
I am getting my head around fire pumps which start at a constant speed direct on line.
When a pump starts on an empty system there is no back pressure then the pressure builds from friction or lift.
So to me it starts at max flow then the flow reduces as the pressure builds until say...
Hi all,
I am in the fire protection business where we use lead acid batteries on constant float charge to start diesel pumps for sprinklers.
Our H&S department is not keen on specific gravity testing.
I am more inclined to say load testing is more beneficial. Keeping in mind our sites are in...
Hi there,
This 12V maintainable lead-acid battery runs in series with another to make 24V to start a diesel fire pump. See photo.
The battery exploded from a gas and ignition source, and evidence points to a explosion when the battery was not starting the diesel.
i.e. simply sitting and being...
Hi there,
I have a general theory question.
Am I right to assume a liquid with a relatively high vapour pressure will have a relatively low heat of evaporation? Are they directly related?
Say some liquid has a (high) 40 kPa vapour pressure at 25degC it means the liquid has weak inter-molecular...
Hi all,
I am troubleshooting an old diesel driven fire pump (sprinklers) which is giving less pressure boost at 5600 l/min than it used to.
In 2009 it produced 5600 l/min at 680 kPa at 1900 rpm, but in 2018 it produces 5600 l/min at 540 kPa at 1900 rpm.
Talking to a diesel guy, he says maybe...

Hi there,
I have a setup as shown in the following schematic: https://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=ecc95b97-67f1-4463-9254-229fe1be8284&file=Capture3.JPG
The 'cantilever beam' sits laterally onto another 'support beam' with two bolts holding it.
Originally I modelled it simply as...
