Have a project with some wide gables (62/0 & 57/0). It's a commercial project.
Normally I would just draw a dropped gable truss and call it done. At least in a situation where there are no attic spaces that require insulating and/or have windows in them.
But as I think through a smaller gable...
Is this truss profile manageable?
65'-0" span with bearing points far left and right of the profile.
Need the end extensions so can work with some slope concerns with getting the truss elevated at the center. The thinking goes that basically just build in a parallel chord truss and piggy back...
10" CIP Basement wall ideally. Need a brick/ stone ledge with full height brick walls at places and corbelled brick over stone and water table at others.
To get BIA recommended clearances of 1"+ from interior face of brick to exterior face of sheeting (and leave enough space between the brick...
Everyone-
Have received some help here related to the "design" of load bearing exterior cmu wall requirements as relates to the Florida Building Code. The consensus seems to be that there is no getting around having a 2X 8" high cmu course bond beam at the perimeter of the exterior walls- unless...
New to cmu residential construction and have some questions related to tie beams.
Have a structural engineer helping me with this that I have never used before so doing a little due diligence to see if my ideas truly will not meet code for Florida.
See attached in in progress wall section...
Could having a garage header in a "driveout" basement be CIP while a basement is being poured be cost effective when compared to putting up glulam/lvl header? There will be 1'-8" +/- of concrete above the garage door (10'-0" CIP wall- 4" slab- 8'-0" garage door). Note also that there will only...
A "modern" house I'm currently designing has 2 stacked front porches 10' deep by 35'-0" long (which is the total width of the house.... narrow lot). They are covered with a simple rectangle 3.5 in 12 hip roof (trusses) that is the same roof that covers the main body of the house. Because of the...
1st Post. Wrestling with a residential construction open web truss connection detail. I am NOT an engineer but a designer (residential). Find myself here quite a bit so figured I'd join up. I'll end up needing a structural engineer for this job but trying to get my head wrapped around a decent...
