    Stay bolts

As per ASME sec 1 on stay bolt welding, pertaining to firetube boilers. Full penetration welds are specified. Does that require full root penetration with reinforcement on the waterside? Thanks

    Corrosion of heat affected zone.

Hi folks. I'm a maintenance welder at a steel mill. We are having trouble with corrosion at the heat affected zone in the butt welds of the rolling solution piping on the cold rolling 4 stand. The pipe is both A53/106B carbon and the welding process was SMAW with 6010 root and 7018 fill and...

Min and Max requirements for basemetal.

Afternoon, Is there a table in the ASME code that refers to min and max requirements for chemicals/alloys of base metals? I was trying to compare the above with the MTR I have for this material, all I could find was a table for this grade of pipe and hard numbers. The exception being Manganese...

    Code of Construction

I have been reminded by my AI that when developing PQR's and WPS's that I need the pertaining code of construction to which the WPS/PQR are to be made. I am curious, how are shop WPS/PQR's made and then applied to vessels and piping when each code has it's own rules? Can these WPS/PQR's be used...

    QW 462.3 (a)

I've been in a friendly debate about the actual width of a transverse root bend on pipe versus a face bend on pipe. My question. Does the actual surface area of the root bend specimen have to be the same as the rest of the specimen? In this case the specimen needs to be 3/4" wide. Thanks

Destructive test for a weld test on pipe with a machined groove

Good Morning , A little background, I was looking at developing a procedure to so that I could test and qualify welders for the fill and cap portion of the joint (with backing) so that they would be able to weld sockets in all positions. It was mentioned that I could machine a partial groove...
