As per ASME sec 1 on stay bolt welding, pertaining to firetube boilers.
Full penetration welds are specified.
Does that require full root penetration with reinforcement on the waterside?
Thanks
Can excessive amperage used while stick welding 309l cause failure of a guided bend test when using carbon steel pipe? Interpass temp to high? Degredation of electrode coating when using to high an...
Hi folks.
I'm a maintenance welder at a steel mill. We are having trouble with corrosion at the heat affected zone in the butt welds of the rolling solution piping on the cold rolling 4 stand.
The pipe is both A53/106B carbon and the welding process was SMAW with 6010 root and 7018 fill and...
Afternoon,
Is there a table in the ASME code that refers to min and max requirements for chemicals/alloys of base metals?
I was trying to compare the above with the MTR I have for this material, all I could find was a table for this grade of pipe and hard numbers.
The exception being Manganese...
Good Morning,
Does anyone have a good website that shows pics of pipe and vessel failures caused because of defective welds.
I would like to show these photos to our welding apprentices to illustrate the importance of sound weld practices.
Thanks.
I have been reminded by my AI that when developing PQR's and WPS's that I need the pertaining code of construction to which the WPS/PQR are to be made.
I am curious, how are shop WPS/PQR's made and then applied to vessels and piping when each code has it's own rules?
Can these WPS/PQR's be used...
I've been in a friendly debate about the actual width of a transverse root bend on pipe versus a face bend on pipe.
My question. Does the actual surface area of the root bend specimen have to be the same as the rest of the specimen?
In this case the specimen needs to be 3/4" wide.
Thanks
Good Morning ,
A little background, I was looking at developing a procedure to so that I could test and qualify welders for the fill and cap portion of the joint (with backing) so that they would be able to weld sockets in all positions.
It was mentioned that I could machine a partial groove...
Provided I use the values in a supporting PQR can I change the actual and range qualified values? ie weld deposited thickness and base metal thickness.
Thanks
In testing a welder with a wpq, can the welder use a different F number filler metal as long as the F number filler metal was in the same group of F numbers? Ie. 70s-2 substituted for ER 309.
Thanks

How would I apply this paragraph to a 6g pipe test?
Would I have the welder weld out a new test or root an entire test, fill and cap the section that failed?
What should happen?
