    Air Cooling 1144 Material ?

Hi Guys! I know 1144 is an oil quench material. I was just curious what happens if we air cool 1144? Would it be still hardened ? Thanks!

    1018 Steel- Heat Treatment

Hi guys! We are case-hardening 1018 steels here at work (0.003"-0.005" Deep). I was just curious what would be the HRC value when we test those parts within 0.003-0.005" with Vickers? We are finding them 30-35HRC lately. Do you guys think they are soft? What would be the min-max HRC value for...

High Dew Point in the gas Furnace

Hi Guys! I was just curious about how to reduce the dew point in the furnace... Endothermic generator's dew point is as we want. but whenever we checked the furnace dew point, it shows 70 when it's supposed to be 55. We first figured there is water in the endo gas pipes for some reason, even...

    1144 Steel Hardness Problem

Hi Guys, I am currently having some problem in our endothermic gas furnace for oil quench. The parts do not get HRC 50-52 Hardness. They stay at HRC 45 after quench usually. We have Nitrogen, Endothermic gas and natural gas for the atmosphere of the furnace. Nitrogen kicks in when we put the...

How can I prevent the furnace from smoking?

Hi Guys! We temper our parts after oil quenching. The furnace that tempering happens in provides a lot of smoke once the operator opens the door. The hole building gets all cloudy all day and the smoke&smell give the other operators headache. Does anybody know what might cause that and how I...

    1144 Steel Hardness Problem

Hi Guys! I am currently doing heat treatment of cylindrical shape-1144 Steel. I am trying to harden them from RC40-45 to RC50-52. I set up the furnace on 1575 degrees. Based on the smallest cross section, soak time is about an hour. The outcome is always harder than we expect (around 60ish)...
