I have an existing foundation on piles.
The Prestressed Pile Concrete drawing detail shows the pile length, size, etc.. is also says "30 Ton Nominal Capacity". This was done in 1988.
Few things that makes me wonder is why is this drawing showing Nomina Pile capacity instead of Allowable...
When soil is muddy after a rain it is softer. When you walk on muddy soil, your shoes/feet sinks more than when soil is dry.
But when you check a footing and consider water buoyancy (water table is near surface) water actually "helps" when checking the soil bearing check vs vertical downward...
To those who have done flat slab and column only buildings (no beams or walls), where slab and column act as moment frame, if I need to put a new hole in the column strip (cutting the rebars), how do I check this and what is the best way to compensate that cut rebars along the column strip.
Existing flat slab (no beams) done in the 50s, supported by 4 concrete columns with capital. It was supporting an equipment. It got replaced by another equipment and someone just put holes about 2 feet dia in the middle strip, cutting rebars to allow pipe to go thru. It was fine I guess cuz it...
Say I have a pump with 45,000 gpm capacity and I want to size the stormwater steel pipe diameter. What's a good reference for this? I'm familiar with manning's open channel but in this case there is a pump involve so there maybe pressure involved.
This is just high level check. I'm not going to...
Anyone got a good reference when to put interior vertical and horizontal rebars for pump foundation. Say pump foundation is 6'W x 12'L x 6"H. I mostly see just exterior rebars on all sides. But I think interior rebars are also used, I see this sometimes on bigger mass concrete pump/compressor...
I have a vertical vessel and just need to verify clip capacity of platform. The clip looks straight forward to input except the picture orientation is for horizontal vessel. So the thickness of the plate is now the length of the plate. I dont think this matters but just want to make sure this...
Can someone link me to a good reference regarding pipeline backfill compaction. I'm researching if those heavy compaction vibrating drum roller normally used for soil compaction are not allowed if they can damage u/g pipe.
This graph shows how ground pressure is reduced when you add steel mat on the ground surface.
I downloaded this from CEPA website.
If I have 80 psi load and I add 1" steel mat on the surface, it will become just 38 psi (on the surface) for soil with 150psi modulus of elasticity (E').
Am I right...
Caterpillar VIBRATORY SOIL COMPACTORS CS10 GC has Centrifugal Force of 6200 lbf. How do I convert this to an approximate vertical static force.
Link is the spec

If I have an existing 6" thick reinforced paving. Let's say I have an equipment on skid that will required a 15'x 15' length×width of foundation, havent decided the thickness of foundation yet. What are the list of issues if I put this new foundation on top of paving (as seal slab) instead of...
I tried googling but not going anywhere.
Does it mean minimum of structure floor must be 2.5' above BFE of Zone AE?
I'm just looking at some properties not designing anything.
Is contraction joint of a slab a concrete shear failure and only the dowel action of rebar resist shear?
I'm looking at some drawings and an engineer put contraction joint on an elevated slab. This has been constructed a long time ago. I'm wondering about the shear capacity of this elebvated...
Where can I get this reference about staggered pour and to wait 7 days between pours for water retaining concrete tank that is long (200+ ft)?
I tried looking for it online but can't find where it came from.
I have a non-composite form deck that has some areas rusting. You can see the concrete in these areas and some has spalled. It will be repaired by patching with cement grout.
The question is what to do with the metal form deck on this areas? Do you usually do a bigger cut of the form deck...
Anyone done this to get the resonance frequency? I feel only the vertical frequency maybe valid if I use risa3d and other frequency (rocking, etc) may not be checked properly.
I've read in concrere mix guides you can't increase slump using water, of course. It also statea use admixture instead, that's it.
I've not seen a guideline about increasing slump using ad mixture like what's the maximum slump if using admixture, etc..
All other specs are met (concrete...
I have an existing pile cap. When I checked the pile load, I'm getting 10kips difference between rigid and FEA analysis using RisaFdn.
Is it ok if only one method pass? Let's say it was reversed and pile allowable fails in rigid pile cap analysis and pass using FEA, is this acceptable too...
