Hello community,
I am working on a selection of control valve, which will regulate the inlet to the Flash vessel. The sizes of the inlet and outlet of the valve are DN600 and DN1800.
Is it realistic? Are there any flash vessels with the inlet flanges more than DN1000 or so?

In case of Casting....for example...a volute casign, the volute core is made using core box. The core boxes and the patterns are made either out of wood or metals( e.g. Aluminium). I wanted to understand, how volute pattern and core box itself is manufactured in Aluminium/wood? How volute shape...
Tubes are designated by its outside diameter. So if we need weld 1" OD tube having 0.15 inch thickness with WN flange, then what should be the size of the flange selected? Can we use flanges as per ASME B16.5?
Or is there any other standard followed for flanged connections of the Tubings?
My question is, as per Mandatory appx.2 from ASME Section VIII div.2. Why the area of gasket considered for Wm1 and Wm2 is different?
In case of Wm1, the formula is,
Where, the area of gasket considered is , 3.14 x G x 2b
And in case of Wm2, the area of gasket considered is, 3.14 x G x b...
CA6NM typically contains Carbon not more than 0.06%. However, Ferritic steels contains carbon upto 0.12% yet, the steels are not hardernable.
What is the reason behind it?
How can I understand the physical significance of the terms Hyperbolic, parabolic, elleptic PDEs? I do not want mathematical explanation. I wish to know what are real life examples through which I can understand these terms? What is the physical significance of Characteristic curves?
Especially in case of A216, Cr content is restricted max. to 0.5%. Chromium is stable carbide former. Which carbide is formed in case of this Steel, C23C6 or Cr7C3?
What effects does the normalizing and tempering has?
We know that the torque is Force x moment arm. Here in this case why the moment arm is not radius. The real problem for me is that, I am calculating friction torque required by the rotating disc to overcome.
Here the I have done the calculations with below 2 methods:
1. In close approximation...
In case of Stud, when it is jammed with the help of two nuts i.e. 2nd nut on the top of one nut, is it possible that the Thermal expansion effect will be cancelled. Is it the reason why, normally equipments like Pumps are bolted to Baseframe with the help of Double nut? I think this restricts...
Ni or Mn are two Austenite stabilizing elements. In SS popularly 18/8 steel, where Ni is used as an Austenite stabilizing element, why is it essential to stabilize Austenite microstructure? Is it to avoid Carbide formation with Chromium? If yes, then how making Austenite stable helps to avoid...
While Flange joint in piping connection, it is very common practice to use Gasket to seal faces. I wanted to know why cant we use confined gasket between faces like making a groove on the face of one of flange and just keeping the face of the other flange flat. This will also reduce the...
