Looking for specification for identifying pearlite in cast iron sample.

Hello, I am looking for a specification for identifying pearlite in cast iron sample. I see that the AES ductile iron microstructures chart for judging pearlite / ferrite percentages. I also have ASTM A247 - Evaluating the Microstructure of Graphite in Iron Castings. However, that does not...

    Run out calculation

I am calculating the axial run out of a disk that spins on a shaft with bearings. See this example (not mine) of checking the axial run out. Also see the definition of axial and radial run out. I am given the radial run out values of the bearing cup and cone. why would these radial...

Cast to machine surface stack up

Hello All, I am looking for a worked out example of a cast to machined surface stack up. Or any resources would be helpful. The only thing that I have found is this example. But I’m not sure I am computing it correctly. https://www.dimensionalconsulting.com/cast-to-machined.html

    Plastic Welding - Design Considerations

Hello All, A couple questions on plastic welding. I'm interested in those with practical experience in the subject. Is plastic welding suitable for structural applications? I think the most obvious concern is fatigue, as there is not well-defined endurance limit for plastics. Are there any...

GD&T position Mutiple segment - Calculating min and max span of bolt holes.

Two holes, diameter min = 5.0 , max = 5.7 Hole 1 coordinates 700 =x1 , 200 = y1 Hole 2 coordinates 750 =x2, 500=y2 I am struggling how to find the min span of the holes with the given multiple segment position tolerance. The span will be the hypotenuse of the triangle formed by the...

Do I have the correct Idea for Position tolerance

If finding the maximum x direction the position is allowed to deviate, then it would simply be 1/2 of the position tolerance of 0.2 = 0.1, as shown in circle 3? The y component, or distance from the B datum would remain unchanged, correct?

Position Tolerance and MMC with Multiple Datum References

I have two holes separated by a distance. Does the MMC apply to the hole on the left, or does the U and T position tolerance override to RMS ?

CNC Op 10 and Op 20

I see the terms Op 10 and Op 20 in reference to CNC machining operations, what do they mean, and is there history behind the terms?

Surface Profile Tolerance Without Datums - is it flatness?

Applying a surface tolerance on a surface without datum reference. Is this flatness? My knowledge is limited in GD&T. Is this true ? I am having a hard time seeing it. I want to ensure that the profile of the surface is 1mm. I did not want to reference datums, as I read datums were not...

Press / Interference Fit of Composite Cylinder

Hello All, Classic interference fit equations computes stresses in a bore and a shaft of two different materials. ( i.e., material 1 bore, material 2, shaft) As shown: I have a shaft ( or bushing in my case) that is made of two different materials, steel outer and rubber inner: Not sure...

Position Tolerance - Flat datum, and two circular datums.. What is this control frame saying ?

This is just a concept drawing I created to show the example. I have a hole with a position tolerance of 1 ref to datum a, b and c. and I am confused. Does this mean that the hole can vary 1mm from datum a (easy to see) , and the same for datum b and c ? I am struggling to see how...

Thread Pitch and Min number of Threads

Hello Eng Tips, Does a thread pitch of 1 mean that for example 1 thread per millimeter ? So I I needed 10 threads, the depth would need to be at least 10 mm in depth ?

CATIA V5 DMU Space Analysis - How to tell if you have it ?

Trying to overlay two parts to see the difference. I keep seeing videos online saying to use DMU space analysis. I do not see the icon anywhere. How to tell if I have a licenses to that feature ? Thank you.

    Suspension bushings - vulcanization process

Hi All, Having trouble understanding how suspension busing are made. Is the rubber heated and then injected into metal housing ? Is this when the Vulcanization occurs ? Or is the rubber already in the shape of the bushing , and is placed into housing and then undergoes vulcanization? I’ve...

    Joining two meshes in Hyperworks

I am hoping someone can help me with this question. Part was meshed and contacts created. In came a request for a small geometry change. I deleted the old mesh on that section, imported the new geometry and re-meshed that area. I can not seem to figure out how to merge or make the two...
