Calculations for Wood furring strip/cement panel siding fasteners

Hey Guys, If someone was asking you to check the fasteners for wood furring strips/cement panel siding what would you be checking exactly? Just the withdrawal from wind and the weight of the material? In this case, it's nails.

    HWS Weld Callout

Hey Guys, What weld callout do you usually show for your headed weld studs to embed plate? Thank you!

    Help W/ Risa Model

Hey Guys, Attached is a detail I'm trying to put into Risa along with the model I've drawn for it. I would like to get some input on how it looks as I'm not super familiar with RISA as a whole. Am I right to have a rotational boundary condition at N1? It seems to be the only way to get...

Connecting a diagonal wood beam to a CFS Stud wall

Hey guys, So I have a situation where I have a wood stair stringer connecting into a CFS Studd wall. I'm thinking of using a track spanned between 2 studs and bent diagonally to match the slope of the stringer with screws from underneath into the stringer to support. What do you guys think...

3' Span w/ 1.5" depth for CFS members

HeY Guys, I'm spanning an opening 3' wide that only has 1.5" depth allowed for members. Using CFS, how would you guys go about this? They don't make 1.5" studs to my knowledge, so wanted to get some ideas what would you guys use in this situation? I need to be able to fasten sheathing from...

    Seismic Anchor Design 17.2.3.4.3

Hey Guys, I'm doing an anchorage design for a nonstructural ponywall condition. I am trying to understand section 17.2.3.4.3 but am really struggling. I'm seeing that for section a my anchor strength has to control, but how do I make that so? Even when my concrete strength is 8000 psiit doesn't...

Safety Factor/Load duration Factor for lifting wood panels

Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge on safety factors/other design considerations on lifting connections by crane. It seems like it would be more than the vertical load. In this case it's a lag screw connection into CLT. Thanks,

Wood Stair Landing on Concrete Slab

Hey Guys, So I have a wood stair landing only a couple of feet off of the ground., I am wanting to just build it up with studs, but if I do this, how would you go about attaching the studs to the concrete slab? Would you install a bottom plate and anchor it down? That seems like overkill to me...

    Floor Sheathing Span Rating Tables

Hey guys, Where can I find the load tables required to design floor sheathing? I don't usually work with wood and haven't had much luck googling it. Thanks,

Composite studs in Simpson CFS Designer

Hey guys, Does anyone know how to check a composite studwall in Simpson CFS Designer(counting the full height sheathing with the wall)? If not, how do you check your composite studs? Thanks,

Screws into Side Grain of woods

Hey Guys, Does anyone know of a section of the NDS that provides edge distance and other values for fastening into the side grain of wood? I haven't had much luck finding it if it's there. Thanks,

0.7 deflection modifier on interior walls?

Hey Guys, Does anyone know if you're allowed to take the 0.7 deflection modifier when designing interior walls? I can't seem to find a clear answer, the 5 psf is often treated as a "wind" load but not sure it actually qualifies for this factor. Thank you!

CFS Bottom Track Cantilevered Overturning check

Hey guys, So I am doing a cfs parapet wall that will be held down by 2 rows of screws to resist overturning. When checking this connection, how should I go about ensuring my track works in bending, what checks would you do? Thank you!

    Lateral Deflection Limits for Headers?

Hey guys, What do you go off of to determine your lateral deflection limits for a header? Would it be the wall above limits? I can't seem to find much on this it's all vertical deflection. Thank you!

    Fastening CFS to CLT Deck

Hey Guys, So I have a situation where I am needing to attach CFS track to a CLT deck in a "bearing" condition, and then also in a "bypass" condition where the wall ges past the deck. I guess my question is have you guys done these before? How does the end grain factor and considerations work...

Jamb Stud Trib Width and CFS Designer

Hey guys, So my understanding is a jamb stud would have the same lateral trib width as a normal stud unless you have a stud over/under the opening closer to it than normal spacing. When I run Simpson CFS designer, it seems to not add that trib width over the opening as if there is a stud...

Connecting Back to Back CFS stud Beam to a CFS stud/post

Hey guys, So if you have a back to back cfs stud beam, how do you generally connect it each end to a cfs stud or post? Do you use clips? Seems like you have very limited area for a clip connection. Thank you!

    Window Rough Opening Measurements

Hey Guys, So on doors, typically we add 2" to the width for the RO dimension(depends on the doors but typically). What do you typically do for windows? Any adjustment for the vertical dimension?

Do you always limit Header deflection to L/240 or better?

Hey guys, just wondering here if you guys always limit your header deflection to L/240(or higher)? I've read where it can be applied from the roof and floor limits provided in the code, but does it say that explicitly? Or do you use your own judgement on it?

Axial vs. Flexural Bracing for CFS studs

Hey guys, So when you brace your CFS studs, when do you consider it axially braced? I'm pretty familiar with the flexural bracing concept but not as sure about axial bracing. Could anyone point me in the right direction for this? Thanks!
