    Thickness of drop panel below the slab considered in slab reinforcement calculations

    Dears, I have one question, as per ACI318M-11 paragraph 13.3.7, why the drop panel thickness below the slab shall be considered not more than the length between the drop panel outer face to the column face/4 when calculating the slab reinforcement, refer to the attached screenshot. Regards.
