Thoughts on Acoustic Pulse Reflectometry (APR)?

Hi All, I'm looking into alternate technologies that can measure for detects and wall lost in heat exchanger tubes. We been using IRIS and ECT. I recently learned about Acoustic Pulse Reflectometry (APR)and apparently the major benefits is that it's minimally invasive and it's faster than ECT...

Understanding yielding scenarios in a pipe

I was reading a thread about local plastic deformation and strain hardening effects and there were a couple of comments that I found to be confusing. Below is the link to the thread along with the two comments in question. I provide input below: Thread...

Why can't this gas filter be exempt from ASME VIII?

In u-1(2) e in ASME VIII, it exempts "piping components" such as "strainers". Mechanically, filters and strainers can be very similar. However, this gas filter I'm looking at is ASME VIII stamped and i was told it isn't considered a "piping component". Can someone tell me why? thanks...

I’m interested in doing pneumatic testing on some B31.3 piping and below is the requirement for the test pressure: “Section 345.5.4 Test Pressure. The test pressure shall be not less than 1.1 times the design pressure and shall not exceed the lesser of: a) 1.33 times the design pressure b) The...

    Air Cooled Heat Exchangers Inspection

Hello, I'm working at a small plant and we are trying to development an inspection procedure for our fin fan coolers. We know how to internally inspection the tubes using ECT but we are having a hard time searching for information regarding inspecting the blades, header boxes, fin fans, etc...

    Scattered Pits in API 510

From an application standard, I understand the methodology for determining if scattered pits on a vessel can be ignored. However, I'm curious of the conceptual reason why these pits can be ignored if they follow the API 510 section 7.4.3. Can someone explain? Here is an article that describes...
