    How common is it to place control j

    How common is it to place control joints in masonry retaining walls. My masonry retaining walls are 8" thick and 4' max retained height. The masonry walls are located in Hawaii. So no freeze thaw cycles. I usually place (2)-#4 horizontal bars in bond beams a max of 32" O.C. vertical.

    masonry shear pier

    Can someone point out to me in the TMS 402-08 where it lists the minimum shear lengths? If I remember correctly the minimum length of a masonry pier should be 3 times its wall thickness.
