We need to put side baseplates right below the main baseplates. Both are 16mm thick (5/8 inch). It need to be full open corner joint like the above illustration and not flush or half open joint. The welder is an expert. But this configuration is not common. So I need to ask something here:
I...
Hi,
(the above are 4 baseplates with 3 painted with epoxy (for the inner side) and first few holes marked with pen and the 4th baseplate showing the unpainted side).
Do you use cardboard or big paper and punch against the anchor bolts to layout the holes in the baseplates to be drilled by the...
A firewall is supposed to be constructed from the ground up. But can the perimeter main columns be considered part of the firewall?
If not, then for high storey building like 10 storey. How do they make the firewall?
The stirrups of beam and midspan longitudinal bars of beam can only be mobilized once the concrete has cracks, and the hairline cracks can be visible.
1. But are there other concrete members where the reinforcements are mobilized yet there are no crack visibilities?
2. How about in masonry...
In reinforced concrete, the aggregate can expand during fire and the cement shrink resulting in loss of aggregate interlock...
So you see, structural engineers must also be expert in fire characteristics of masonry wall and not leave it to the fire department and others who may not even know...
Topic is independent and thread must stand alone.
Has anyone built anything like this?
The masonry wall and I-beam are offset by 2" distance. How do you detail it if there is such offset? Or imagine the masonry wall going above it and you are bracing it at the side.
The original unedited...
Who among you have tried drilling concrete pedestal with already base plate on top. That is. You will drill through the baseplate and concrete and even cut through any rebar inside (that is redundant anyway just believe me).
What is the cheapest rotary hammer wattage you could get for this...
F1554 Gr. 55 anchor bolt has yield strength of 55 ksi
F1554 Gr. 105 anchor bolt has yield strength of 105 ksi.
Sideway shear strength of the bolts are said to be 0.6 times the tensile strength so in case of grade 55 bolt, it's 33 ksi.
Let's take the case of 5/8" epoxy or chemical anchor bolt...
Screed or mortal mix made up of cement and sand are very hard to chip off from floor especially if there is a wire mesh underneath the screed/mortar.
Which begs the questions. What would happen if say 4" of mortar (made of cement and sand like used in screed without any gravel) with wire mesh...
