I am confused by the fundamental principle of defelction-derived tension in a "tightrope". I have to design a similar (but pretensioned) zipline system, and I want to make sure i am usign the correct design principles.
In the image attached, I highlight my confusion.

The code reads as such....
(b) Anchor or anchor groups shall be designed for the
maximum tension that can be transmitted to the anchor or
group of anchors based on the development of a ductile
yield mechanism in the attachment in tension, flexure,
shear, or bearing, or a combination of those...
Does anyone know of a resource to clearly show when Overstrength is required based on seismic design category and building component. The information is just littered in the ACSE and some info in the ACI. A flow chart makes too much sense to not exist. Thanks in advance!
I am hoping to use some truss screws like SDWC’s. I need ones are for exterior use though, and It doesn’t look like I can use SDWC or its values exposed to weather. Anyoneknow of any exterior use truss uplift screw and have access to its values. Owner wants screws for aesthetics on an outside...
The roof attached is the one that fits the one I am designing for. The height is roughly 30'. I am not used to designing with this 0.6h number for what I would normally call "a" which is the minimum of 0.1 L and 0.4 H. This 0.6H from both sides will make the entire building a corner zone. Is...
I have a roof with a large overhang, 12'-15'. In the attached diagram from ASCE 7-16 The value Ps,(pressure from the underside of the overhang)is the wall pressure value from the wall below the over hang. I believe this value is from wind hitting the wall and running upward to continue its path...

Is there a load table for a joist seat larger the standard 2.5" joist seat. I am looking to extended a 5.5" joist seat around 10 or 11 feet. With the 2.5" values this seems very doable but I am not finding nay solid values on what the larger joist seats can span. Any info is helpful. Thanks
I am trying to fix a wood cantilever wall with nothing but clips from the studs to the bottom plate. The wall moves by shaking it. I am hoping someone knows of a Simpson product that I can put on the bottom of the studs, that I can drill and epoxy into the footing to take some moment and...
I am designing a small (20x30) 10 foot high square CMU building. Risk Cat 1, Seismic Design Cat C. I was planning on using running bond with ladder reinforcing @ 16" and a bond beam at the top of the 10 foot wall. To me that seemed plenty and meets code, then a colleague told me they use bond...
Does anyone have a justification for when a building does not require special inspections per the IBC. Some states like North Carolina have adopted height restrictions and other measures, while the IBC is relatively vague. If anyone routinely uses their requirements for special inspections any...
A Tall (>60') building is built in almost an 'S" shape. I am trying to determine the Cladding Wind load for a large garage door built inside one of the alcoves of the 'S' shape. Does anyone know of any language in the Code about allowable distance from a parellel wall that can reduce or...
I am designing a canopy and want to confirm I am using the updated codes correctly if any one has knowledge of the 7-16 code expansion. It seems pretty straight forward find the GCpn from the chart below (attached) and multiply it by the wall wind pressure. My canopy is low on the building...
I am trying to make a wind pressure excel sheet using C and C simplified pressures depending on height, wind speed etc. Does anyone know where I can find an excel ready version of the C and C tables for 7-16 so I can plug them into my spreadsheet and then reference them depending on the...
