Just had 2 aircon units fail probably at the same time although I can not swear to it as the non-cooling wasn't noticed until different times of the evening.
Have attached photo of 1 of the capacitors from the compressor showing the failure, the second unit capacitor is also knackered but no...
I have a number of mitsubishi ceiling fans in the house, they are 4 speed controlled by a rotary wall mounted speed controllers.
1 of the units is now running very slowly on the lower speed. Other speeds are ok and it doesn't appear that it is mechanical, on shut down the fan rotates freely for...

Background:

This evening while searching for data on a particular Grundfos pump, I can across this pump hand book on the Grundfos site. Having had a quick look thru the first 20 odd pages I would recommend it to anyone looking to better understand pumps, the various configurations, styles and types.
It is...
I know there are some great minds here in the pub and there are also some who live in these awful below freezing climates, so lets see who can come up with an answer to this.

Seems as all the pump selection problems are now a thing of the past. All of us old guys can put away our pump books and slide rules and take up fishing or bird watching, then maybe there is still an opportunity for us to sort out some of the weird and wonderful questions posted in this and...
Probably an over simple question for the plumbers in here but I need some clarification on any rule of thumb or thoughts on what is a reasonable length of straight run of 4" dia. PVC at 2% slope from a toilet pan to a septic tank, that is assuming there is a maximum length.
Thanks
An interesting news item today in Australia's Sydney Morning Herald.

Can any one explain why energy saving lamps (compact fluorescent lamp (CFL))can and do when switched off, intermitently flash. I recently refurbished a apartment fitting all new light with energy saving globes, most of them flash at varying times which is a puzzle to me.
I have just come across a list of basic but informative articles which are well worth reading if only to refresh your knowledge.

Hi guys and girls - time for me to ask a question.
I have been asked to look at a water reclaimation system in a large industrial laundry. I understand all the pumping problems of handling the lint with pumping equipment and in this case some sand in the waste water - I could however, do with...
