Hi All
Does anyone work with EN 1993-1-9 and how does assessment of fatigue differ from ASME VII please?
Would to know if the design effort/time will change and if the FEM tools used for ASME VIII work with EN 1993.
How to others handle large rupture disc holders when discs need to be changed?
We are looking DN350 holders which weight ~ 60Kg and need to be removed from under the discharge tubes to change the discs. We have a way to jack up the discharge tubes but not sure how to slide out the holders...
Hi
Can I please have recommendations for additional reinforcing to transfer moments and forces on a steel pipe imbedded item into a slab. The embedded item is the only loading point on the foundation so there a lot of load to transfer into the slab.
We can add holes for bars through the...
What is more common when ordering socket weld flanges to get the correct ID of the socket step?
1. state the pipe sch e.g XS or SCH80
2. state the # rating e.g 3000# (to match XS pipe)
We want to improve our drawing control and move into the 21st century. Currently we print off drawings and sign the hard copy. Which is the record of the design and drawing has been checked and approved.
We would like do improve this process with only a signed CAD or PDF drawing file. We can...
A customer is installing a custom pipe spool within a piping system, simple flanged 'spool' as below. Different material (thicker and higher allowable stress) to the piping. The problem is they require the spool to be designed as a pressure vessel (ASME VIII-1) rather than a pipe spool. Now as...
We have a vessel that for the process requires a smooth vessel internal wall surface. Does ASME allow protruding weld metal be removed back flush to the vessel wall after the welding?
We have an application using a hydraulic motor and gearbox with a negative/passive brake. The catalogs for these units list the output torque and the brake torque (example below) Why is the brake torque so much lower than the output torque? What is Note 3) saying?
In our case we want use the...
ASME is planning a change to B31. (also B31E & B31.3)
proposed change clause 101.5.2 and 101.5.3. ".. the Allowable Stress Design reduction factor shall not be applied”.
The following is the ASME explanation provided for the item record associated with this revision:
“Some time ago the...
We are working on a vessels design project where;
1.The MAWP has been calculated from body plate wall thickness (much higher than the design pressure.)
2. Nozzle design is not allowed to reduce the MAWP
3. Nozzle N1 external loads (at design pressure) have been provided.
4. N1 is complex shape...
Public comment now open on TS 1170.5, to help lead the way for new practices in seismic engineering
15 February 2024
The first draft of the hotly anticipated technical specification 1170.5 Structural design actions - Part 5: Earthquake actions - New Zealand is ready for public comment and we...
Question for Caesar II users.
Does Caesar run the analysis for EQ actions in the forward and reverse directions or just analysis in one direction then only reverses the result in the load combinations?
Regarding load combinations Ceaser says “The subtracted uniform load vectors reverse the...
What Ra value is applied to,
a) Pile foundation where some lateral movement is tolerated and the this movement will dampen the EQ actions.
b) slab foundation where sliding and over turning has no mechanism to adsorb the seismic energy.
Hi all
What is bad about welding SS piping to CS flanges? As below we are adding a spool between CS and SS piping. The DN900 spool will be SS pipe with SO CS flanges. The plan is to add SS overlay on the CS flange gasket face. (the spool is needed to fill the existing gap)
Tips for calculating the strength of an embedded steel cantilever as below please. How can we get credit for the extra reinforcing located at the top of the slab and the bars through the base of the steel?
Hi all
Do ball sector valves with double eccentricity (eccentric rotary plug control valve) allows process pressure to assist with opening the valve?
Seems to me the shaft offset puts a moment on the ball from the shut in pressure. None of the valve vendors sites I looked at mention this.
We are designing a 316L SS tank for venting steam. Ideas please for detailing this so it does not vibrate to bits. Layout below. steam flow 400t/h.
The flat floor is a concern. Planning to grout between the floor and foundation.
Is there method to calculate the required wall thickness?
