    Controlling direction of motor rotation

Hello. I have a Siemens 3RK1315-6LS41-3AA-5 motor starter with reversing contactor. Is it possible to use the digital inputs to reverse this device? If not, is it possible to use ASI to accomplish reversing. The reversing would only need to be done in a jog fashion momentarily upon occasion.

Siemens Step 7 declaring local variables

I am somewhat new to Step 7, but not to PLC's. I seem to have a problem grasping the concept here when it comes to the inputs and outputs of what Siemens calls the "Variable Declaration Table". Are these I/O real physical inputs and outputs?

    Compound motor vs. stabilizing shunt

I always thought that if motor had a series field and a shunt field it was a compound motor. What is a dc motor with a stabilizing shunt?

    Reliance vfd tripping on "overcurrent"

I have a Reliance GV3000 which trips on "OC". I have a 30hp, 480v motor with a 60hp drive. The LRC goes up to 78 amps in about 4.5 seconds. Then the drive trips on overcurrent. I have tried to adjust the acceleration slope having numerous values from 5 seconds to 20 seconds. The drive still...

How to determine polarity on three phase motor?

Is there a procedure for determining how to properly identify the leads on a 6 wire 3 phase motor? The motor leads are unidentifiable. The nameplate only shows T1, T2 and T3 connections. This is a 460v, 150hp motor. Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

    How does PWM work?

Forgive my ignorance, but can anyone give a simplified explanation of how PWM works? I understand this is the fundamental concept behind most VFDs and that the duty cycle of the pulses at a certain frequency is proportional to maximum motor speed. Is this partally correct?

    RS232 smart cable

I have probably 10 or so communication cables. I use them to communicate with plcs and drives. I recently saw a technician work on a GE 90/30 plc and then go to an AB SLC500, then a Control Techniques QuantumIII digital dc drive all with the same cable. He said it was a kind of universal cable...
