I see that Microsoft have just released a beta version of support for Python code directly from Excel, available to Beta level "Insiders" only.
Does anyone here have access?
Any comments?
I'm particularly interested in advantages/disadvantages compared with add-ins such as pyxll or Xlwings...
Has anybody else had problems with Excel recalculating very slowly recently?
For the last few days I have had the following problems intermittently:
- Some spreadsheets that normally open quickly locking up for minutes when first opened.
- Slow recalculation (several seconds) when data is...
I have just discovered the EurocodeApplied web site. It has on-line calculators for design to various Eurocodes, with detailed documentation of the design procedure and code requirements.
At the moment for concrete it only cover ULS design of circular (or tubular) sections, but it says they...

Almost all forms of electricity generation that extract energy from environmental sources are highly variable in their output, depending on the weather, and in the case of solar, the time of day. As these sources of energy provide a higher proportion of total requirements, either massive...
The climate affects many aspects of engineering design, including wind speeds, flood levels and temperature extremes. Design codes must set specific levels for these things, and the appropriate level varies depending on geographical location. The appropriate levels and geographic extents have...
I have recently been experimenting with Python + numpy and scipy; combined with PyXll to talk to Excel. It seems to me to be a good way of getting round Excel's main limitation for engineering work (i.e. the lack of good heavy-duty numerical analysis routines), although the need to work in a...
Those frustrated by the lack of routines to solve differential equations in Excel may find the link below useful:
http://newtonexcelbach.wordpress.com/2010/06/18/using-the-alglib-ode-runge-kutta-solver-with-excel/
It provides an Excel UDF implementation of the odesolver from AlgLib.
All in...
I've just posted this in the VB forum in response to a specific query, but it's probably more appropriate here. I've just finished some custom functions to find the real and complex roots of quartic equations, also cubics and quadratics.
Anyone interested can download from...
For an acedemic exercise I would like to get an idea of the relative cost of concrete and reinforcing steel in different countries. Could you give me an approximate cost for:
Concrete delivered and placed. $/m3
28 day cylinder strengths 32,40,50 and 60 MPa or closest equivalent.
Steel...
Can anyone tell me how to extract polyline coordinates from an IntelliCad drawing using VBA. Also any good sources of information on programming Intellicad and VBA would be useful.
Thanks
