Use of AI for learning and practicing structural design

I have used an AI called POE which I came to know through Quora. I have lost countless hours trying to get some hard to answer book. It is always a "YES" with countless positive answer, lots of references. Hopefully I have the books in PDF version to check. At one time I was looking for...

    Screed On Roof

HI I will like to know more on screed on roof which is usually set to 50mm. thick. I have witnessed personally how after a few days all of the screed has cracked, worst, broken in pieces through most likely the effect of direct sunlight. It could also have been cause with total lack of curing...

    Kicker Under Wall

HI, We usually design a kicker usually 75mm. high under masonry wall to help builders align the wall, column and also prevent water from canopies/external wall surface getting into and accumulating under the mortar bed of the tiles etc. I will like to know if there is any information like...

Use of AI for learning and practicing structural design

Hi All, I will like to get your feedback on the best AI tools or application with AI integrated that can be used to learn and practice Structural Detailing of Structural elements like Slab, Beam, Columns, Staircase, Foundation to BS or EN norms/codes in Reinforced Concrete. According with some...

    Irregular Combined Footings

Hi, I have seen that footing in a structural plan. When I came across such I usually combined the footing to create a bigger square or rectangle footing which is much easier to detail. However this engineer combined it in a L-shaped footing. I will like to know whether building codes allow...

Changing Rebars or Delete Bar size in Etabs Beam Detailing

Hi, Here is the output for the beam in etabs I have number of problem with this detaliing. First is that here we do not have barsize 14 and I have go to Define>Section Properties>Defin Baesize which list all the bars but no option is given to delete a particular bar size. Also I want the...

135 degree hooks in links (Detail) - BS8666-2005

Hi, I need some lights regarding part of the table in BS8666-2005 explaining length of bends or anchorage in bars. I am using this instruction to create a 135 degree hook which has better anchorage than a 90 degree hook. On the 3 other corners, I have already draw the links as per...

    Strip Footing

Hi Jayrod12, Here is the 2 design compared: https://ibb.co/g7NG2PC

    Strip Footing

No in typical detail, the main bars are made up of R6 mild steel and the main bars are made of T10 main bars. In Chudley's book, it is just the contrary, the longitudinal bars are actually the distribution bars whereas the shortest bars along the width of the strip footing are the main bars.

    Strip Footing

Hi, This is typical strip footing drawing used here. In Chudley's Contruction Technology, it is the reverse which is true and I believe he is right as B1 bars should span along the shortest distance. Actual Typical Drawings per Structural Engineers and Actual Practice Roy Chudley's...

    Sunken Slab Detailing

Hi Tommy385, I have updated the detail as follows: Also there was an error on the length of the top bars which should be effective span/3. https://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=e1e4bb75-edbf-4d01-bf8c-c1d5f9b2d09a&file=RND_000-001c_Forum_Proposition.jpg

    Sunken Slab Detailing

Thanks KootK, Here is a reworking of your detail with a 100 mm. drop next to a beam. Is this ok? Please feel free to correct. In my case, the slabs are simply supported as beam and slab are not cast in one operation but separately. Also would you please give me some books or code references...

    Positioning RC Column

Hi MIStructE_IRE, I know that 150 mm x 150 mm is out of norm with official code we are supposed to follow but most houses here is made of this size of column and sometimes we do have span exceeding 4.5 m and even G+2 house on such skinny support. This is a basic issue and I don't think we need...

    Sunken Slab Detailing

Hi, I am asking for first floor or any other suspended floors that are supported on RC Beams and not Slab-on-Grade or oversite type of slab. Thanks for the email note.

    Positioning RC Column

Hi. Here is a sample foundation and architectural layouts. I believe there are more columns than needed. However those are skinny 150x150 columns reinforced with 4T12 (+R6 links at 125mm). Please advise where I can remove columns. I believe a problem that may arise with a grid positioning...

    Sunken Slab Detailing

Hi, I am looking for any advice re. detailing of sunken slab i.e here a terrace that is 100mm. lower than the remaining slab at First Floor Level. Any documentations or examples of Two way or One Way Solid RC Slab Detailing with sunken slab, holes or pitch roof design in CAD or PDF format...

    Positioning RC Column

Hi, A question of positioning Columns. Should it be at all wall intersection or should it follow a more rigorous grid line pattern with more or less same X and Y spacing between them? Thanks.
