Do you need to model the chips as a separte "part" or can I simply extrude them out of the mid surface I created for the pcb? I have seen that you can assign different materials to the extruded chip.

Thanks for the advise. FEMAP is nothing like the CAD packages I have used. It is a wonder they have not embraced a better parasolid module to make modeling easier and faster. I imagine it is all tied into the mesher.

True I am a newbe to FEMAP. I worked thru most of the tutorials but only one delt with an assembly and they chose to assign the same material to all parts. I slugged thru the manuals and read between the lines and figured it out. FEMAP really needs more examples and/or pics in the Commands text...

Since it was only a modal analysis with no loads, a constraint is not required. The only trick is to realize the first 6 modes are basically zero because they reflect the 6 degrees of freedom. Mode 7 is really the first mode or fundamental frequency of the unsupported model. I learned this trick...

The results are appended to the end of the previous set so if you are requesting 10 modes, the 2nd run should be modes 11-21.
