Hi All,
I am currently working in Alberta Canada as a junior geotech engineer at a consulting firm (one more year to go for my P.Eng). Until recent collapse in oil price, I am quite satisfied with what I have been involved with (ie typically large scale oil sands mining projects on both...
Recently we are designing a large earth dam that will be gradually raised over the years for a total height of >60 m. There is extensive weak clay within the footprint: some at the shallow depth and some at deeper depth.
The shallower clay was found to be over-consolidated (OCR around 9) while...
The site is a karstic limestone landscape (mostly infilled sinkholes or depression valleys after salt removal process millions years ago).
The problem is that we do know what's under 5 to 10 m into the bedrock which consists of mostly interbedded clayey limestones. My questions are:
1. Is...
Thanks guys.
Perhaps not the first few weeks, only the first few days. I found myself surrounded by overachievers in this firm. The guy sitting beside me is apparently working on 3 projects at the same time.
I recently ran into a problem. Whenever I tried to open Civil3D (from the short cut and start menu, it's always AutoCAD workspace that pops up no matter what I try).
Is there a solution to this? I am pretty sure Civil3D is properly installed on my computer with all the service packs updated...
Thanks guys. Very good and reassuring points here. Management told me not to worry too much during the first week and I was indeed approached for that good project on my third day ( I assume management was behind this).
I think the best way forward is to wait out for the first few days during...
Running into a situation here.
I joined a environmental consulting firm a week ago and was assigned a new project during my first week. The project looks exciting since it will go from feasibility to actual implementation (groundwater related). However, right now we are mostly waiting for and...
This is actually for an earth-fill tailings dam. My interpretation is that the passive wedge refers to an isolated geological layer outside the toe of the dam.
We have two inclinometers on the same line of defense, both of which have been sheared. However, it appears that the shear plane is not in the same elevation considering they are quite close to each other. One eng mentioned that this could be possible if one of the inclinometers is installed in...
I am considering to include some projects I worked on during my time at this firm as well as what I did in those projects. Wonder if this is ok since I will list the name of the facility designed (even if I don't put the client's name, people will know who the client is).
Those projects are...
