General engineering practice is fillet weld on the internal flanges and web.
Fillet weld on the external web.
PJP or CJP (based on loading) on external flanges.
Motivated Apprentice,
Strongly suggest your company hire someone with the required knowledge to complete this.
Your comments on this post and another show that whilst motivated you need help in understanding the code.
Please do not take this as criticism - your company should not put you in this...
Unless your "co-workers" are Welding Engineers probably better to ignore their advice.
You need to submit a TQ to your Client detailing what you intend to do (including size of HAZ removal) and get their approval.
ASME VIII Div 1 UG 36 (g)
If the holes are plugged, the plugging material used shall not be capable of sustaining pressure between the reinforcing plate and the vessel wall.
I not only think before commenting I do research before I comment.
If a hole in a re-pad is called a telltale hole (or...
This is an interesting subject and there seems to be an awful lot of misinformation out there.
I am currently battling a client who requires 15 psig pneumatic test of trunnion repads.
What on earth for ?
MT/PT will deteck any porosity or cracks in the fillet weld.
I fully understand the...
KevinNZ,
Sorry mate, I disagree with you and believe racookpe & LI are correct.
Pipe Schedule is related to the ID of the pipe so WN flange and pipes must be same schedule.
For Socket weld flanges pipe schedule is irrelevant.
A 2" Class 300 flange can accomodate Sch 40, Sch 80 & Sch 160 pipe -...
Kingnero has given good advice.
Couple of others come to mind.
Good coverage of the spool while installed on machine - stop airborne contaminants settling on the wire.
Correct tension on the rollers is critical - too loose and wire will "slip" and not feed correctly - too tight and the wire will...
If your WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) states qualified for P1 to P15 it isn't worth the paper it is printed on.
P1 to P15 is for Welder Qualification - not Welding Procedures.
As XL83NL has stated whatever you purchase must comply with the Delivery and Tesing requirements of the applicable standard.
Then it must also comply with any additional project specific requirements which you have not noted.
ThaiVu,
I will try again.
One plate vertical, one plate horizontal.
Forget about root of weld or root of joint - we will talk about the junction of two plates.
If you have 100% penetration at the junction for 100% of the length of the plate when broken there will be no straight edges. - Pass
If...
ThaiVu,
Your questions are a bit confusing but evaluation of a Break Test is pretty basic.
Any straight (unfused) edges in the exposed broken weld - fail.
Any inclusion or porosity larger than 3/32 in [2.5 mm] in greatest dimension in the exposed broken weld - fail.
Hope that helps.
This is similar to our current project.
Coils for Fired Heaters are specifically excluded from ASME B31.3 but the Contractor is Designing, Fabricating and Inspecting in accordance with B31.3 (with Clients approval)
The day I agree with you is the day I will cease posting on this forum.
I have said it before and I will say it again - you bring nothing constructive to this forum.
ASME V states for RT, MT, PT only that surface irregularities shall be removed prior to testing.
After testing you can do what you want as long as you do not reduce the actual wall thickness. (see ASME VIII Div 1 reference below)
T-222.2 Welds. The weld ripples or weld surface irregularities

I agree totally with Davids comments - especially the last one.
A little story and I hope it is relevant to this discussion.
My Thai wife is a self taught designer.
She has designed both of our houses and also our Childrens Water Park (and supervised the construction).
I am an ex-welder who has...
Currently working on an ASME VIII Div I project and this issue came up.
ASME VIII Div I clearly differentiates between butt joints (in the same plane) and corner joints (90 degrees to each other).
ASME I notes exactly the same terminology for butt joints (in the same plane) but no mention of...
