Alls,
Thanks for all the suggestion. If impact tested SA105N will cost more SA350 LF2, then I might as well settle with SA350 LF2.
Regarding impact test for SA150N, I've check with ASME II part A and it don't have supplement for impact test on SA105. Can anyone point out any part of ASME code...
Dear All;
I have a problem here. Currently, I have a thick wall vessel 90mm with ID of 1500mm design in Div. 2. I am using self reinforce nozzle for all the opening. The problem is the minimum design temperature is -29°C and I am trying to use SA105N for these nozzles. As per AM-218.4 Div 2, the...
Wabbit,
Do you mean that my vessel shell can't stand for 271 barg? I have run the calculation using latest PVElite and it show no problem for other small nozzle. Can you plaese check whether you are considering Cat 1. BTW the c.a. is 3.0mm. Thanks.
Hi everyone,
For ASME Div. 1, normally we will apply 30° for bevel on forge nozzle and 45° for Div. 2.
How about PD 5500? 30° or 45°?
Thanks.
Regards,
Lee
Prex,
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, the nozzle is flush and even in the latest PD5500 written that there is no limit on the permissible diameter.
The main problem is my client don't accept my explanation on fabrication problem. Anyway, I still hoping somebody here can give me an answer.
Hi,
I have a case here.
Design Code PD 5500 Cat. 1
Design Press = 271 barg
ID = 1000mm
T/T = 3600mm
Thickness = 85mm
There problem is I have a 24" manway. From my calculation, the required nozzle thickness for reinforcement is 250mm. OD of the nozzle is 1110mm and the OD of the vessel is...
Hi Everyone,
Is there any limit specified in PD5500? I have a case here where the OD of nozzle 1110mm and the vessel OD 1170mm. I need a clause stated in the PD5500 code that mention that the size is violating the code as they don't accept my explanation on practical fabrication issue. Thanks...
Dear All,
Do we need solution annealing for duplex steel, UNS S31803?
The thickness of my plate is 12.7mm. Please advise. Thank you.

Thanks for the reply.
Currently, I try to get EN 10028 part 1~6 but haven't get approval from our management (we are more on ASME). I have a verry urgent job to bid. So, to get information from code book is not an option to me, at least for the time being. Anyway, thanks again and hope that you...
Dear All,
Can anyone tell me where to find information regarding this material e.i. Yield Strength at certain temperature or the allowable stress. I mean not from the code book. Thanks a lot!!
Thank you cb4 for you reply. I come across some calculation that using 3 times of the yield strength for the allowable stress. My question is, how to determine the allowable stress and if can, where can I find the references. Thanks again.
Dear All,
I need some guide to design my vessel on blast load. My vessel is 26m ht and 3m ID with blast pressure 0.3bar @ 0.2 sec. My question is how to convert the explosion pressure 0.3bar to the force acting to the vessel.
Currently what I am doing is calculate as per wind calculation. I am...
Dear All;
Somebody told me that the compressive yield point used in external ring (for saddle) is different from the value in ASME Sec. II Part D table Y-1.
For my case
Material : SA516 GR.70N (Shell and Stiffener)
Sy in Y-1 table : 262 N/mm²
Sa in 1A table : 137.89 N/mm²
Purpose : Use for...
For your case, what I will do is convert the acceleration to static load acting on three direction. It depend on client requirement whether to consider it separately or other wise. Do normal static calculation e.i. force acting vertical (acceleration + g), force acting horizontal and lateral.
For my design, I considered the load per unit length increase due to vertical acceleration. For example, the vessel weight is 5000kg. For normal case, we only considered 5000 x g but for transportation, we times with the vertical acceleration. e.i
Fv = 1.4g (or maybe in m/s²) then the equation...
