The best option would be to weld and then remachine again but keep in mind what material you use for welding as you need to machine later as well.
Hope that helps

Hello
I have a component with OD 228.7 mm with material composition EN 15. We heat treated it in a salt bath furnace with marquenching to achieve a hardness of 53. Now we are in a big fix as the OD distortion is more than 1mm and we have tried straightening with a ring type fixture and using a...
Thanks TheBlacksmith for your reply.. i had heard something of the same nature.. Can you please let me know which surfactant to add to water for hardening 20MnCr5 to achieve a hardness of 50-53 HRC.
I know that the results will not be comparable but the items I am talking about are synchronizer components for a gearbox and some manufacturers have been using induction with changed alloy steel chemistry to fasten their production. Hence I wanted to know if it can be done and some details as...
Hello
I wanted to know whether 20MnCr5 with some modifications can be hardened through Induction Hardening. So basically can a low carbon steel be hardened through induction?

Thanks a lot for your reply!
Is there a software I can use where I input the final drawing or dimensions and get the forging weight (net and gross)..
Thanks

I am a gear manufacturer and have newly entered the field. Can someone please tell me the methods to calculate the forging weight which my suppliers calculate or if there is any software available for that. The materials I use are either 20MnCr5 or EN 8.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as...
Thanks Terry for your answer. Was the first time I posted a query and really happy to see experts reply.
Should I increase the case depth to 1-1.2 mm for better results in service life?

Thanks a lot for your reply. Really appreciate it.

Could you please let me know where I can get a...
Hello I am new to the forum and had a couple of questions:
