Mechanical seals vs packing seal on UL and FM fire pumps

thread184-156726 "I don't believe that there are any U.L. Listed nor F.M. Approved fire pumps with mechanical seals" my question is why not? anybody know the reasoning behind this ?

I need some advice here, I have had about 2 years experience in a tank farm as a maintenance engineer(lots of pipelines, valves, tanks, ship and barge docks, vapor recovery units, vapor combustion units, pumps etc). I have a bachelors in mechanical engineering and also passed the FE exam last...

Best pipe material for sewage pipeline over sea channel

TomDOT: the dock in question is a concrete dock. HDPE has been eliminated from the shortlist because of its flammability xtics, I may have to spend more money and design for ductile iron with internal epoxy coating. I can deal with corrossion after a couple of years of service. I am grateful...

Best pipe material for sewage pipeline over sea channel

thanks 77JQX, please take a look at the attachment from "cvg", I can put as many supports as possible, allow for expansion. I will also look into a tray for a 4" pipe and enough piping to "snake".

Best pipe material for sewage pipeline over sea channel

thank you so much for all the suggestions, here is what TCEQ recommends "The pipe shall be constructed of cast iron, ductile iron, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) Schedule 40, standard dimension ratio (SDR) 26 or other material approved by the executive director", but of course they are not concerned...

Best pipe material for sewage pipeline over sea channel

I intend to install a 4" sewage pipeline 120' long (approx). pipe exits from a commode on a dockhouse with a very good slope for gravity drain along a distance of 120' to shore. there are issues with UV light on PVC, however cast iron, carbon steel etc will be overkill, will require a lot of...

I am trying to learn how to size pu

I am trying to learn how to size pumps, I wish to verify if a Goulds Model VIC-L 1500GPM, 145TDH, 60HP can pump crude oil. I dont have specific data for pour point of crude but I intend to assume viscosity of say 783 ssu. My intention is to use an example to learn how to size and select pumps...

    NFPA 69 - Flame/detonation arresters

Is there anyone who has experience with location of flame arresters in a tank farm with interconnected piping to manifolds and flares or Vapor combustion units ? It seems NFPA 69 requires deflagration protection between individual tanks but its not very clear. Which API standard adresses this issue?

    NFPA 69

Hi Everyone, I am a new user to the forum. I am trying to find out if NFPA 69 requires Flame arresters in a tank farm with interconnected piping and manifolds, isolating each tank, we have flame arresters at the flare/VCU units and lots of tanks have been hard piped to transport the vapor to the...
