Hello & A big thank you to laserninja [thumbsup2]
Back in April I posted the above thread a problem with the "Constant Beam Length Unit" on an Amada 4020.
I passed on Laserninja‘s suggestion of checking the belt tension to management and the technicians who said no, it had...
Yes I have seen the reddish colour particularly on 350 grade mild steel it does not seem to case a problem, maybe the finish is a primer (as mentioned) or something else that is the problem. Can you post a pic of the redish surface?
We have had the same error on our Amada 4020 but I am not sure it is behaving the same way. The error always comes up at the beginning of the program and results in the head slowly going down in the home position until it gives a over travel Z error.
The only fix we have found was to load a new...
Hello,
I have scanned the procedure for calibrating the CBL and attached it here.

With regards to pressing the micro switch to see if we get the problem I am a little concerned as if...
Hello Laserninja,
Thanks for the reply drive belt tension sounds like a very reasonable place to look.
You are correct it does happen soon after setting the origin.
I thought I had posted all the pictures on the page but it appears that the site will allow only one attachment per posting so what...
Hello,
Firstly apologies for not posting earlier, but I now have my camera and computer up and running again.
Luckily (?) we also had another CBL crash this morning so I am able to post pictures of the machine, codes and the crash position.
Looking at previous crashes it looks as though the...
Hello Laserninja, thanks for the reply.
The U axis runs the Constant Beam Length unit (CBL).
It a set of 2 mirrors that move at half the speed of the X axis (+ or - the Y&Z axis) so that (theoretically) the beam from the laser generating oscillator to the work remains the same length regardless...
Hello,
I am new to laser cutting so please use words of one syllable or less. :)
I have recently joined a company to run their Amada FO4020NT here in Perth, West Australia.
It has an ongoing problem with the CBL unit (U axis) every so often getting out of calibration.
This necessitates a long...
