Yes I have seen the reddish colour particularly on 350 grade mild steel it does not seem to case a problem, maybe the finish is a primer (as mentioned) or something else that is the problem. Can you post a pic of the redish surface?
We have had the same error on our Amada 4020 but I am not sure it is behaving the same way. The error always comes up at the beginning of the program and results in the head slowly going down in the home position until it gives a over travel Z error.
