Thanks Ed. I thought there was no harm in asking... If you don't ask then you won't know...
We usually get mill certificates from suppliers as required but they don't normally include actual stress-strain curves. I can always ask the question...
Thanks again.
Hi All,
I am looking for stress-strain test data curves for commonly used engineering metals - such as carbon steels, alloy steels, stainless steels, aluminium alloys, etc. I wish to build a database of these so I can use them in non-linear finite element analyses.
There is scant data on the...
Thanks guys for the help so far. It turns out that there have been a few changes in BS 5500 / PD 5500 since 1996!
Looking at PD 5500:2015 section 3.8.4 there appears to be some discrepancies in a couple of formulas.
In Suggested Working Form 13 the formula for hR is
hR = (G0 - C - dh)/4 +...
Excellent! Thanks for that. That confirms my fears. I saw the bit about the flat-faced flanges as well and thought "yippee!" -- until I read about the metal to metal contact outside the bolt circle -- bugger!
Never mind I will check out PD5500 next week. I've got a copy on my desk but I...
I am making some design changes to an existing air dryer that was designed to ASME viii Division 1 back in 1984. Part of the modifications consist of adding a short shell section to the existing shell by bolting it to the end flange. The end flange is a flat-face slip-on type and uses a...
I am looking for a decent beam analysis software package to replace our old software that is no longer usable due to modern operating systems. I did find a good package called STEELbeam v6.0 but the vendor (http://thinksoftware.net.au/) appears to be out of action and STEELbeam is unavailable...
Does anybody know of a good source to find the properties of 310 stainless steel at elevated temperatures? I have found some but not all. In particular:
- Young's modulus
- Proof strength
- Thermal expansion coefficient
- Specific heat capacity
- Thermal conductivity
Most of the sites I...
