For me it's a matter of post-processing related to stress averaging.
It seems in the model on the left the stress is averaged at the 2 components interface hence the smoother result while on the right it isn't hence the discontinuity at the common edge between the tube and the plate...

The only problem is that I don't have access to a non-linear solver at work. We use CATIA V5 and we don't have the non-linear module. However even if we acquire it, I'd still like to be able to check my assumptions before running non-linear analysis ...
