Is there anything in SJI that requires horizontal bridging row to to be terminated with diagonal bracing up to the diaphragm?
I looked, but didn't see anything. Seems like you would need to bring the bracing load up the diaphragm.
Let's say you just acquired your PE license and will soon be stamping structural plans for your employer. Are there any critical questions that should be asked of your employer? I'm thinking in terms of liability insurance, the standard process if there is a claim from drawings you stamped...
Does anybody have a good reference for loose lintel angle design? The problem seems to be pretty complicated in reality.
Can you assume the angle is braced by the brick? Has anyone simplified it and produced span tables?
OK, sounds like there isn't a lot of checking occurring. That's kind of disheartening for a young engineer to hear. I can see how time constraints, tight budgets, competing deadlines etc. are constantly working against you, but I think some time should be aside for overall sanity checks...
Does your firm have a standard policy for checking structural engineering calculations?
Does everything have to be checked by somebody? Or do only certain things get checked? Does nothing get checked? I'm just curious what the norm is in the industry for quality assurance of design...
