Hello,
I'm new to gear machining.
1. I know that shank type gear hobs costs way more compared to bore/keyway hobs. What are the pros and cons?
Why would people still choose shank type hobs?
2. Also, I have seen that hobs are usually held both sides when grinding. Is it possible to hold...
Hello,
@engaddict, Yes we have a switch that on the door and a pressure gauge. When the user does not tighten the door, the program will never start. It will also alert the user.
However, we can't rely on that switch. Some curious users, they will still try to open the door even with "two...
Hello,
I'm currently looking for an appropriate safety interlock for a small pressure vessel. The lock is to prevent the user from opening the door when the vessel is pressurized.
I'm not using any quick opening design. Do you guys know which safety interlock can be used for small pressure...
Thank you. I will definitely pick up my phone and start asking questions for the requirements. I have searched the requirements and it seems pretty confusing. That is why I'm here.
Also, I'm not only doing drafting. I also do analysis for gearbox and pressure vessels. However, the products are...
hello,
if that is the case, get it done asap and move to a bigger challenge project.
agreed with bootmills.. there is always something to learn. None of the products are perfect and will last forever. There is always a room for improvements.
@miketheengineer,
Thank you, does that also apply to mechanical engineer? Can I get references from my professors to verify my experience?
Some of my professors are registered PE.
Getting a job under many PE supervision is not easy nowadays.
Hello,
I can understand how you feel now. You should not request your manager for a new project if you are newly hired.
That shows your incompetency especially you are fresh grad. I would say try to get as much as you could. Discuss it during meeting, and let your seniors judging your work...
Hello,
I wish that I could get a PE to open my option for my future career. I have passed EIT in California, and I'm currently working as a mechanical engineer. I do the drafting and the analysis for the new products. It is not an invention, and it is pretty much reverse engineering and trim it...
Hello,
Thanks for promptly responses. I notice that ASME has training courses for BPV Sec VIII div. 1 this coming September.
There were two courses available. One is just PD442: Design and Fabrication of Pressure Vessels. Another one is a more comprehensive course which includes Inspection...
Hello,
Thank you for your responses. Yes, I'm glad the quick opening closure is not required for the design.
The design parameters are 29 psig and 135 degrees Celcius.
Based on the design parameters, do we still need the product code stamped or certified?
We are looking for about 100 units...
Hello,
My employer has a new project, a small autoclave sterilizer. It's actually a 5-6 gallon sterilizer. We have no experience in the mechanical design.
We also have no experienced mechanical engineers specialized in BPV. Do you think we should hire consultants? Or is there any guide/book...
@kenat : yeah I got my h1b approved. I doubt my employer would pay me prevailing wage.
$25/hr is too much for him. I will probably get half If I'm lucky.
I'm really lost now. I need the right door and the right opportunity out there.
Hello there,
I graduated since Dec 2011. I got this job and have been working full time since June 2011. It's almost a year.
This is a small company. I have been working as an R&D Engineer mainly focused on reverse engineering. It is very difficult for me to get jobs in United States due to my...
