Thanks guys for your willingness to educate.
By the way is this P/A the compressive stress at balance condition (where A is the gross area)?
If this P/A is at service meaning I now have a different value of Area?
Hi,
I am relatively new in designing post tension member and as a start I am trying to study how RAPT do the design of Post tension slab.
I came across the P/A value @ transfer and at service.I was told that the limit for service is P/A = 1.2 - 1.8 MPa to control the cracking of concrete...
Hi'
I was advised to design a beam that must satisfy AS3600 table 2.3.2 or the limits for deflection. Is it proper to compare the limit, that is L/250, with the long term deflection of the beam (calculated through RAPT) or is it used only for immediate deflection? If so, what is the limit for...
Sir,
I am reading the AS3600 code and can't seem to find the modification factor for the inertia of an element to consider its cracked behavior.
in ACI it is given as:
Column = 0.7I
Beam = 0.35I
For complete list see ACI 10.10.4.1
Am I just having no luck searching or is AS3600 has different...
Thanks hokie66!
I see. Thanks for clarifying that plastic hinging is not a result of strain hardening because such hardening occurs beyond ultimate strength of the material far beyond its yield point, Im a correct?
I beleive plastic hinging is really dependent on yeilding of reinforcement...
Hi guys!
As I google the definition of plastic hinging one of the answer states that, "a condition where a member can bend further but there will be no increase in resisting moment".
I would like to ask what contributes to this mechaninsm (strain hardening maybe).
I have used ACI chapter 21...
Thanks AELLC for the reply.
First, Yes it is the otherway around for the ductility of beam using rho.
Second, I didnt notice that this thread was under Engineering Spreadsheets.
So I stant corrected twice'
Thanks man'
Cheers!
I understand that Rho as prescribed by the code gives limit to As to ensure that the section will fail in a ductile manner.
Does it mean that a section adopting rho max is more ductile than the one using rho min? but ofcourse
Good day!
I'm new to prestressed design and just about to start reading some materials about it.
I started by reveiwing the theories of Reinfored Concrete Beam (RCB) and came accross this question: "Is there a way to quantify the ductility of RCB?"
I understand that increasing As (Area of...
