Radial Spring

Greetings! Thanks L_K and flash3780! To define material properties (deflection vs stress) for spring, we have limited access to this data. I think, calibrating spring data (material model) for varying dimensions is not practical. So I am trying to find different approach for this. 'Beam...

    Radial Spring

Hello L_K, Thank you for your reply. I am not aware of 'pipe' thing in ANSYS, can you please give more references? Also, can you tell me how to model 3D garter spring? I think, that will help to simulate my problem. Many Thanks!

    Radial Spring

Hi, Can anyone tell me how to define radial spring i.e. force vs radial defomation feature (like garter spring) between to concentric 3D cylindrical parts separated by 0.2 mm radial clearance in ANSYS workbench environment? Thanks in advance!

    Pipe Load & valve design

Hi, ASME B16.34 & API 6D ask to consider pipe load for valve design but didn't specify how to use them. If customer has given bending stress as a design condition how to use it for design of single piece and 2/3 piece valve body? Any illustration will be highly helpful. Cheers!

    UNS designation of Cu5MCuC?

Hi All, What is exact UNS designation of Cu5MCuC? NO8825 or N08826? Cheers !!!

    triple offset butterfly valve leakage

Bao2ye, Are you opening the valve under differential pressure? Which gasket is used below seat / seal spiral wound or flat graphite sheet? Gasket relaxation and loosening of retainer screws are known culprits. Cheers !!!

API 6D 24th edition :- Cavity Relief Test Pressure

@ bcd :- CORRECT, already initiated the process for clarification from API.

API 6D 24th edition :- Cavity Relief Test Pressure

Hi SPDL310, What you said is 'CORRECT' and followed everywhere in industry. But the standard is saying something else (may be) and I want its correct interpretation. 23rd edition was more clear about this clause. Cheers !!!

API 6D 24th edition :- Cavity Relief Test Pressure

Hi All, Can anybody throw some light on clause 5.8 of API 6D 24th edition. "Valve cavity relief pressure when added to the valve pressure rating shall not exceed 133 % of the pressure rating of the valve at its maximum specified design temperature" 1) "when...

Torque due to piston effect and spring load

SubseaEng7, Integral mentioned in calculation is giving syntax error. May be you can share the entire calcultion sheet? Cheers!!!

    Valve Flow coefficient Cv

Thanks MortenA, I want procedure to generate 22,000 value not 12,000 value. This procedure will be used for computation (in CFD software) of Cv at different openings to plot % opening vs Cv curve. Cheers !!!

    Valve Flow coefficient Cv

MortenA Theoretically and by formula I can get the desired Cv but when I give same inputs to CFD Software it simply doesn’t give me desired flow (Cv) for ON/OFF valve. Katmar For 12” ON/OFF ball valve Cv is around 22,000 whereas for same size CONTROL valve it is 12,000. When we physically...

Cast steel or forged body valve.

If you have legible Name Plate on valve, read the material for body. Is that 316L written on body? Regards,

    Valve Flow coefficient Cv

I am concerned about Cv values I am getting from flow simulation software. If I use procedure as per ISA/IEC for Cv computation of CONTROL VALVE, the values are 40/50% less than ON/OFF valves. So I am confused which procedure to be simulated on software to get correct Cv values for ON/OFF Ball...

    Valve Flow coefficient Cv

Hi All, Go through this thread http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=209037 We are having exactly same problem as per above thread. The Cv values we are getting through software are very less but they are matching when valve is treated as CONTROL VALVE and are 40/50% less when valve is...

    Blast load Evaluation of valve

Thank you for your reply gerhardl. Yes, that is what we are doing => asking customer for more details / procedure. Also, read Bolt Load Evaluation as Blast Load Evaluation, my typo error. Blast load evaluation for valve? Seems new in industry. Will update you.

    Blast load Evaluation of valve

Hi ! One customer has asked for Bolt Load evaluation of valve. The conditions given are Max. Overpressure =0.05 bar Impulse = 350 N.s/m^2 Equivalent static load= 25 kpa Can anyone tell me how to use this data on valve + actuator geometry for design evaluation? Thanks & Regards,

    Valve FEA

Thans gerhardl I like your comment "Not everything can be solved in practise by computer calculations". Hope my customer understand this. Cheers !!!

Self-Contained Hydraulic Emergency Shutdown Systems actuator Spring

Valveusa I don't think you can achieve <3 sec just by spring release action especially springs are heavy and has considerable inertia. Search for quick closing actuator manufacturers. They use extra pressure in spring cylinder forfast closing. Sorry for half information but thats all I know...
