Hi all,
We are having a hard time constructing our non load-bearing masonry walls with bond beams. Is bond beams really necessary part of the masonry wall system? Is this indicated in the codes/ guidelines?
Thanks for answering!
We are trying to reduce our bid cost by utilizing the excavated limestone as our backfill material. Will there be any issue on this? Since limestone is known to be soluble to water?
Can anyone point me/ share me a reference in coding macros and programs that could be integrated with STAAD that could help me automate the design of tapered sections for tapered frames of PEB? Thanks in advance!
Hi,
Trying my luck here.
Sourcing out designers/ specialty contractors that can design and build a wastewater treatment facility employing Yakult A&G Water Purification System (see link for further reference). We are currently bidding for a project and the Owner (Yakult) would like to...
When do we need to fireproof a structural steel building? Is there a building code provision that allow us not to fireproof a structural steel building given several conditions?
I believe that if the framing plan of the second floor of a steel building is relatively high (so high that it cannot be reached when) there really is no need for it to be fireproofed. Is there a code/ regulation that can support this claim? Anyone who has experienced on this? Will be glad to...
Our contractor propose to plunge the column rebar to freshly poured concrete bored pile to shorten the construction pile. Their proposal is similar to the video in the link below...
Thank you for all your response. I just thought that, maybe there is some statistical basis behind these values. Does the author perform monte carlo simulation or something.
Hi,
It is my first time to design a pedestrian bridge using the LRFD Guide Specifications for Design of Pedestrian Bridges. The specs did not mention that seismic load shall be considered in the design of a pedestrian bridge. Is my understanding correct?
Can anyone share a good reference or sample problem on beam rested on base plate? Please see attached file for reference. Thanks in advance!http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=fde0e0f2-1f96-4f96-986d-2dc203e3bb88&file=Beam_on_Base_Plate.png
Does anyone knows a good reference for the design of lattice girder of precast half slab? Thank you for your response.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=3c204d32-32a5-41c1-854b-0429e12dff78&file=Precast_Halfslab.JPG
Currently, I am involved in the design of a bridge. We are utilizing mechanical couplers in lieu of lap splicing. We are just following the code prescribed guide that the tensile strength developed by the mechanical coupler should be at least 1.25 x Yield Strength of the reinforcing bar it...
Thanks jayrod12 and KootK. I am now designing the slab for lateral loads/ diaphragm action. Though, I am not so confident about the detailing. Do you have nice reference for the connection details between steel beam and slab? How frequent should be the shear studs? And one more thing, our client...
I am currently designing a five storey steel structure using STAAD. I am planning to add the slab in the model (something I have never done before) to achieve diaphragm action. The lateral drift I am getting is so small and very little as compare to the maximum permissible drift as recommended...
I am trying to model a bored pile in STAAD. The diameter (d) of the bored pile is 2.5 meters. Lateral subgrade modulus (kh) as indicated in the geotechnical report is 6600/B (MN/m3). I am planning to put spring every one meter of length of the pile. Hence, I am thinking of the formula below...
Hi Dik Yes, but not all through out. It is sleeved from NGL to 5 m of depth. I am wondering are there any methods/ countermeasures that could secure the release/ flow of dirty concrete?
Hi dik, the diameter is around 2000 - 2500 mm. Length is around 20 meters. We cannot inspect the bottom that much, so we just rely on the tremmie pipe's pressure to expel the dirty concrete. Dirty concrete meaning, concrete with mixed of soil from the boring. The bedrock is severely weathered...
Hi oldestguy, actually that is our course of action at first. But we are having a hard time doing concrete coring due to tight rebar spacing. And if we core rock samples, will it be easy to identify soil inclusions?
