Check out this site that I found. www.powerchips.gi Does this seem like a possible technology? Or do you guys think it probably just a lot of hype to scam investors?

Greg,
I think gasification is a great fuel source. It uses waste products which might otherwise either just be dumped and decay, or be ineffeciently burned for heat. I'm still interested in gasifying oil but just haven't seen anything about oil yet. I've been needing to get a standby...
rmw,
I don't understand your deal is with the cup of coffee and three light bulbs. 1300 degrees at 40 cfm is a bit more energy than that. It's probably not worth trying to get anything mechanical working, but I'm sure it would heat a lot of air and/or water, at least enough for a good size...
Greg,
I've been checking out the sites you listed and think wood gas sounds great. But I haven't seen anything about gasifying waste oil. I can't figure out what good this info is to me. I've got my hands full dealing with the waste oil furnace, I wouldn't get anything done if I began...
Greg,
I googled "downdraft gasifier" and read a bit. Are you saying that I can route the exhaust gas from my glass furnace (which is fired by waste oil) into a downdraft gasifier and then into an engine? Or are you saying I could run an engine and my glass furnace with some other type of...
a31ford,
I'm very interested in your method. I've never heard of the technology you are using so I don't know what questions to begin asking. Except, how do you connect the flue to the engine's intake? Does the engine's intake create a vacuum once it gets going? Also, how many hours does...
Getting the oil is easy enough. If I knew of an economical method to produce the electricity and get it sold I'd find the oil. I just don't have the knowledge about which methods are the most economical on a relatively small scale. Just guessing I'd say a steam engine or turbine?
PS If I...
That's what I had thought, space and water heating are my best use of the heat. Since I have an almost free source of heat, I burn waste oil, I've been dreaming of a way to produce electricty and selling my excess to the power company. I'm sure it's more trouble than it would be worth worth or...
Hi boilermaster,
I don't have a way to check anything besides the temp. I should probably just recover as much heat as simply and cheaply as possible. It would probably be enough to keep me toasty in the winter and keep the water hot too.
If I guesstimated my flow at 25-50 cfm and a...
I have a glass melting furnace which burns approximately 1GPH of waste oil, which is rated @ 140,000BTU per gallon. Anyway, I'd like to use the exhaust heat for "something". The flue temp is 1200-1300 deg f. I figure heating air and/or water would be relatively simple using heat...
Delta2112,
I don't really know any details. I do know steel mills use carbon electrodes which melt using an electric arc. I once visited a plate glass factory that had an electric furnace but I'm not positive that the elements were the arcing type, maybe they were "normal" heat...
I'm not a scientist, but being an art glassblower I know a little about refractories and crucibles. The highest temp insulation I'm aware of is graphite felt which melts above 5000f. As for crucibles, graphite and quartz both have hi temp ratings. I don't know if they are suitble for your...
boo1,
I just started using the black plumbing pipe because it was readily available and cheap. What are the names/numbers for some common heat resistant alloys?
Thanks,
Glenn
Thanks Ron,
I'd planned on coating the steel with a graphite mold coating. Maybe that will help? I'll sand blast the form and recoat before each firing. If that doesn't work I guess I'll switch to stainless.
Glenn
I think for increased back-up time I'll just add more batteries. I started with only one (deep cell, trollng motor type) and it only gave me 20 minutes. When I added another battery I got 1:20. I can add as many additional batteries as I need, up to 10 or 12 I think. Ten batteries would...
Thanks for the responses. I know where you are coming from by saying "don't fix what's not broke". I was just hoping to figure out a way to make the system less dependent on electricity. The burner has to run 24/7 so I have a battery backup to keep it going during black-outs. If...
I'm using "waste oil" to fire a glass furnace. It's been working great for almost 2 years. It requires compressed air to atomize the oil. I have been using a continuous duty small compressor, 1/3hp. I'd like to simplify the system and use the exhaust heat to produce steam for...
I'm a glass artist working on a new project. I'm planning to wrap/thread molten glass around a rotating steel frame. I'm wondering how much heat the steel (common black plumbing pipe) can withstand before "fire scaling" will become a problem. I plan to coat the frame with a graphite...
